What is your favorite Thai food?

I like chicken or pork panang curry a lot. The spicier the better.
I also like chicken pad thai.
Tom kah seafood soup is really good.
And I can't pass up Thai iced tea.

Those are my favorites, but I like other dishes, too, on occasion. I'd like to hear your suggestions.

It all sounds really good! Unfortunately, I think a lot of the Thai food around here contains peanuts or peanut oil - since I’m allergic to nuts, that’s what stops me from trying it. But I’m going to look up some recipes that I can make at home, after seeing the pictures posted here. Yum!

I think you're right about their use of peanuts. They may even use peanut oil. Either way, I wouldn't take a chance if I had an allergy.

But I'll bet you could make some amazing recipes at home.

It's got to be good, we'e had incredibly good Thai food in the big city, and then other times, it's so so. It's all about that chef!

If you get to Thailand, ONLY eat in restaurants. The street food is tempting, but you should not touch it. And ONLY drink bottled water. No ice cubes. And learn this: "Mai ped." It means not spicy. The Thai version of not spicy, means that your mouth will be on fire, but your head might not explode. lol
Thai people are low on funds, so they make sure the food they can afford is packed with flavor. Make sure to try the two soups I mentioned, but just don't refer to them as soup. lol

Good info about Thailand.
I love various ethnic foods/restaurants here in the U. S. Some are amazing and some are meh. But I always wonder what the food is really like in those countries. Chinese, Indian, Thai, etc. are standardized here. Every restaurant has the same menu even though some chefs are far better than others.
I've been to Mexico several times, and the food is better than U. S. Mexican food.

I've never had any Japanese food in America, except some raw eel. It was disgusting. But if in fact the Japanese have any cooked dishes, I'd like to try it. And I've never had Indian food before.
I think Mexicans, Italians and Germans have it dialed in the best.
It broke my heart to see Ronald in Thailand.

I could have stayed home and saw him.
They have Pizza Huts in Thailand, and you can get whole baby crabs on your pizza. (shells and all)
So for the most part I don't like Thai food. But their soups are the best on the planet. If you want some cheap and good food, go into the food court of a Big C store.

@Gummy_Cluster. There is or was an American guy on GAG who lives in Thailand. On someone else's question, I made negative points about McDonalds. The guy who lives in Thailand attacked my criticism and said that I was elitist for assuming that everyone can afford better food.

I don't think his argument was honest. In reality, I don't think he likes Thai culture or cuisine and, instead, prefers American junk food. McNuggets and McDonalds fries are for kids and aren't even real food.

He is also one of those guys who claims that he can't get a girlfriend because he's short (only 5'10.5 and not over 6' LOL), ugly (he's not), and overweight. Gee, I wonder why he's overweight? LOL

Anyway, I can't imagine eating corporate American fast food when amazing and inexpensive food experiences are available.

You were talking to a complete idiot. American fast food in Thailand, is way more expensive than in America. They can do that, because they tourists are dumb enough to pay it. If you go, rent an apartment. You don't sign any lease, you just pay as you go. So if you're going for two weeks, then still pay the $250 for the month. That's way cheaper than a hotel. Obviously, if you have the money, you might want to splurge on the hotel life. They make your bed and usually have a restaurant.
But if you want to go on the cheap, then grab an apartment when you get to your destination. Then go to Big C and buy some things for cooking. Get a hot plate and a frying pan, and stuff to cook.

But never go during the Songkran festival. It's the largest water fight in the world. Even the fire departments are hosing people down. You will be soaking wet the whole time. And forget about bringing a camera. And the kids like to put some type of mud on your face. I think it's talcum powder and water, but I'm not sure. But since I'm evil, when I was in Big C, I bought a bunch of food coloring. I gathered up a bunch of kids, and motioned to them to hold out their mud buckets. I let them pick the color they wanted, and motioned for them to stir it up. They were so darn excited. So it was so funny because I would see cops riding by with green and purple mud on their faces. I just laughed. Oh, and if you do buy a bunch of stuff for cooking, don't lug it back home. Just give it to a poor family. You will be a hero.

Thom Yuk soup with shrimp or shrimp prawns is a good bitter and slightly hot soup. I lived in South Thailand and other areas of Thailand. Near he Malaysia border. Cheaper to eat out at hole in the wall restaurants than buy food. It is like eating out of everyone's kitchen. travel there sometime.

There is a restaurant near me that is owned by a woman from Bangkok. She is the head chef of course. Her food is THE BEST! We went once and could tell she didn't prepare the meal. I perused past the kitchen and she wasn't in it. Hrumph!

I don't usually add anything to my teas. I've only had butterfly tea at the Thai restaurant I mentioned and I preferred it without the milk. It's a bright purple color. She also makes rose tea that's out of this world and hands down my favorite tea. I have bought rose tea in specialty shops, but none as good as hers.
