I see a lot of comments on videos of food being prepared from cakes to sandwiches to everything else where the preparer isn't wearing gloves and the comments are freaking out about it.

Would you be one to freak out/not buy from somewhere because the person isn't wearing gloves?

No. Seems like gloves are more effective at keeping the food handler's hands clean than keeping germs off of food. I mean, what's to keep the gloves from getting dirty?

I think some businesses who require gloves are just virtue signaling; trying to give customers the feeling that they are practicing safety.

Hair nets to keep hair from getting into food make total sense.

When it comes to hands, though, it's best to simply wash them.

I think people have lost their minds where it comes to germs. It is pushed by companies who sell hand sanitizers, latex gloves, face masks, ...

How did people ever survive before? 🤣🤣🤣

I couldn't care less. I worked in several restaurants when I was young. NOBODY wore gloves then. Even snug fitting latex gloves make it hard to do anything. People in the kitchen wore hair nets, which were required by the health department. But gloves were unheard of.

People today are so paranoid about everything. Yea, there are lots of ways to get sick or get hurt. But you can't live your life in fear of those things.

After millions of years of evolution, and hundreds of thousands of years of humans, the species survived. We were designed to live in the world. Evolution gave latex to trees, for a different purpose. Evolution gave us skin, it's our own natural gloves which work extremely well.

What I don't like to see is someone preparing my food while wearing those black industrial gloves. Those gloves are for doing work other than preparing my food. Just to think those big ugly black gloves were all over my food, makes me not want to eat it, and sometimes I don't eat it.

It's actually fine as long as the hands are clean and nails are clipped neatly. Gloves can be used to keep the hand of the cook clean, otherwise his/her hand would smell like food after hours of work but I don't see gloves being used a something to protect food.

In most places you're supposed to keep your hands clean through out the workday as a cook (being one in a small family joint) I don't know about a lot of places but that's standard and required. I don't see how gloves would help, only complicate it, since when you get a ticket rush and the tickets start pilling up, gloves would get in the way!.

In our place, we got three sinks for three reasons, and from what I 've worked and seen, most places do to! You're probably getting your hands dirtier from the door handle when you enter places and then touching your face and food! You don't see questions about that...

You are aware those gloves are probably dirtier than the surface they are working on, right?

I always tell the worker to change their gloves (if they are wearing them) before preparing any food.

I let you know a small secret. Wearing gloves means absolutely nothing because then you touch everything with those gloves. Unless you change them after every sandwich, coffee and money handled, (basically nobody ever), it doesn't matter. You might be better off with someone who washes their hands often.

If you don't like it... 🤷‍♂️ Meh. I keep my hands clean and wash them a lot and all the years i worked as a chef i never had a problem with hygiene at all.

Doesn't bother me. Especially since during the scamdemic. I went to a restaurant that was adamant about masking on your walk from the hostess stand to your table. They forced the wait staff to wear gloves for some weird reason too. I noticed them running their gloved hands through their hair, picking up the payment envelopes then handing you your food.

You're more likely to wash your hands if they're bare and get food on them than some gloves where you wouldn't feel the food.

Chefs don’t wear gloves lol. We practice good sanitation. Not only that gloves can be even dirtier than clean hands.

No, I'd rather they have clean hands than wear dirty gloves. Most of the harmful bacteria comes from inside the food anyway, not from the person handling it.
