Do you cry when cutting onions?

I used to cut dozens of onions at a time as a prep cook. That was years ago, and the last time my eyes watered, so I think I got acclimated to them. The same way my eyes used to water on a motorcycle when I first started riding. But it would take a lot for onions to make my eyes water now. Like cutting a lot and getting my face really close to the released chemicals maybe.
You build a tolerance to it like CS gas or pepper spray. Now I just buy a sack of onions, cut them all at once, and then freeze them since it does affect my wife.
Then whether it's me or her cooking with them it won't affect either of us since they're frozen and going into the saucepan, pot, or corningware. Also no worries about moldy onions either.
Depends on the onion. We most of the time have red onions and they are not that bad. I can cut them without crying. We do have a few onions in our garden and these are the normal white ones. Depending when we harvest them I have to cry. So normal onions that do make people cry in general I have to cry too, no resistance or anything.
No I have some kitchen secrets... if you put the onion in the refrigerator before cutting it, you won't have tears in your eyes. Because when you chill the onion, it slows down the release of irritants, like the sulfur compounds, that usually make our eyes water 🤙

If chopping onions doesn't last too long, it's not a problem, and my eyes barely hurt. It depends also on the variety of onion. One of the little tricks is cutting efficiently and quickly in not too little pieces and keeping a reasonable distance from the face.
I cry. I can't help it. Taking the life of that Beautiful bulb, driving my knife through its heart. Denying it the possibility of ever producing seeds and populating my garden with its progeny...
It's enough to make me go full carnivore...😜
I am pretty fast at chopping onions, so it doesn't start bothering me till the 2nd onion. If I need just one, I can usually chop it without it being an issue.
Sometimes. I have really bad allergies though, so it don't take much to set off my tear ducts. Sometimes I'll wear my reading glasses to prevent it from happening.
Like a baby
How ironic. I was just cuttinf onions for a sauce last night and couldnt see from the tears flowing out
I mean, no, i will cry. My mother actually said something stupid and I told her how tf am i supposed to see, i'm crying, gdi.
Onion cutting tears are only tears I ever had. Razor sharp and thin knife that reduces pressure of onion and amount of juice , helps a lot.
I just go for it and hope for the best. Usually itβs the latter.
Yes, I hate it. I cry like a baby.
It seems to depend on the onion and maybe even me.
Vidalia... my onions don't create that issue.
Yes sometimes. So I wash my onions first and I cut them fast before they get to my eyes 🤣.
Yes! Easy, I am a chef and i did this for a living, as in cooking and not just cutting onions.
I have some good sharp ceramic knifes, they glide through onion without teargas being released.
If I did it that way, yes. Instead I fill a wide shallow bowl with water and cut them in the water. I rarely get eye irritation using this method.
I have never understood why people say that. But if it's an extremely fresh one yeah your eyes might get a little irritated.
I do sometimes. It's: tears about anticipated joy :)
Yes, I know some people that use goggles lol. There is actually a technique to cut onions without making you cry. I still tear up though lol
I usually don't cut onions. I will but, I try not to. If i just walk into the kitchen when an onions being cut, i start crying
