The Guinness World Record for the heaviest watermelon was set in 2013 by Chris Kent, from Sevierville, Tennessee. The watermelon weighed a whopping 350.5 pounds, breaking the previous record set in 2005. Kent spent months growing the watermelon and had to use a special harness to support the fruit as it grew.
The “Carolina Cross” is a popular watermelon variety known for its massive size. In 2014, farmer Lloyd Bright from North Carolina grew a “Carolina Cross” that weighed in at 302 pounds, making it one of the largest watermelons ever recorded. Bright credits his success to carefully selecting the right soil and providing the right amount of water and nutrients to the plant.
