Maybe you are the type that wouldn’t be caught dead eating fast food, and you are spotted in Mickey D’s. Maybe it is a local place that is known to be complete crap, but there you are because your friend likes it. Perhaps they are known for some goofy thing they do for birthdays.

Have you ever been embarrassed where you ended up eating?

I can't think of any but I have embarrassed my friends for eating at places.

For example, it is considered very bad manners in Japan to be eating while walking around on the streets but I do it if I'm hungry eating things like rice balls or sandwich or chicken wings. My wife and friends say it's so rude but I don't see any sign forbidding eating while walking around on the streets. What are they going to do, arrest me?

Also when I was a bachelor in the US, I had multiple friends and colleagues who loved strip clubs. I wasn't personally a huge fan since I don't think I ever had a chance to pick up a stripper and I wasn't even sure I wanted a stripper for a girlfriend, so I preferred nightclubs. But they wanted to go to strip clubs all the time so I went with them and so I often ordered food at the strip club.

Then my friends would be like, "Dude, it's weird to eat at strip clubs." But I was hungry and actually strip clubs have some amazing and unbelievably cheap food. The drinks were more expensive than regular bars but the food was so cheap that it seemed practically free. So I loved to eat at strip clubs. Also when I was eating a big meal like baked chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans, the strippers wouldn't come around and ask me for a table or lap dance that much which I liked since it always seemed like a waste of money to me.

I used to work out of town all summer, we did road work and just traveled around a couple of states.
We lived in hotels and ate out all the time, so sometimes you ate what was available, from a gas station sandwich, to a greasy spoon or bar at night.
At times the pickins were mighty slim.
Our Foreman had a knack about finding a decent place to eat in whatever town we were in, and one of the guys had one of those portable 12v/120v travel refrigerators in his truck.
So, another guy and I would each give him 20 bucks each a week and he would keep it stocked.
We would just let him know by radio when we wanted something so he would make a sandwich or two at the pit while waiting to get loaded, you would see 2 dump trucks stop in the road in the middle of nowhere and a couple of sandwiches and a soda would be exchanged and off we go again.
It wasn't much but it was better than nothing.
We would eat around 6am, and not until 8ish or so depending on the day so anything was good.
After doing that for a few years, I can eat anywhere and not be embarrassed.

Omg. There's this bar in Queens, NYC that I visited a few times. It was a nice place. Some dancing, pool, fried plantains, good spot. I went with a girl friend just to kill some time till we could catch a movie. I was on my period... problem is I didn't know! Like, I wasn't supposed to start the flow for another 2 days so I just had a liner on. I sneezed and felt the gush of injustice. I'm trying not to panic, I know I have to go to the bathroom. What I wasn't prepared for was the blood stain I left when I got up from the chair and of course the one on my pants. I haven't been back there since. This was about 5 years ago

Okay, I'll tell you the story. So last summer I happened to be in Eugene, OR on the same day as the grand opening of a new Ethiopian restaurant. I'd never tried African food before, so I thought I'd check it out. It said online that it's an "LGBTQ safe space", but I didn't think too much of it, as "safe space" isn't the same as "hang out". OMG, aside from the family who owned it, I was the only straight person in the whole place, and the person who took my order was a female to male tranny! But at least they didn't touch my food, and I lucked out 'cuz the girl who did bring my food was the most normal person in there, I think she still might have been bi if not full lez, but she wasn't like Anne Hech, Ellen or Rosie lez, so those I can still deal with. But everyone else in the place, was a fucking freak!

We ended up getting take out anyways, but OMG, my dad who happened to be with me, did not let me let it down. He straight up refused to touch the food and kept saying to me that only faggots eat Ethiopian food. Worst part is, the food wasn't even that good. I paid $40 and the portion was so small that it was only enough for one person.

I told my mom about the food, but I didn't tell her it was hangout for Alphabet people. I only told a few close friends about it. But it's not like I ate there on purpose, but I'm telling you Maya, I was genuinely traumatized. Normally I avoid those kinds of places like the plague. I don't mind getting out of my comfort zone and experiencing different cultures, but there's nothing cultural about Alphabet freaks. The tranny that took my order was the most traumatic for me.

Loads of times... once for example when I got very hungry after work. I grabbed 3 hotdogs for myself from a van. Fully suited and booted up stuffing my face thinking the area was empty. Turns out a group of girls and guys in the distance starring me down laughing. I just laughed and walked off - funny but I was embarrassed

I had to stop eating at a local pub, as the girl I was dating had dumped the chef at the pub and he very much blamed me. Unfortunately I had a couple of meals there before I found out. The comment I got via his conversation with the waitress was along lines of ‘make sure he pays for the meal, he’s got a habit of taking what does not belong to him’.

I was not the reason he got dumped but he decided it was my fault, no chance I could eat at a place where the chef held a grudge lol.

Not regularly. There has been some places that were notoriously bad. There was a place in town that every place that opened up was terrible. I think there was a place where one of the owners sons was arrested for child pornography. I would be embarrassed to eat there, still a popular place. But I haven’t really been there since. It was a nice place. But…. Kind of ruined it.
