Do you cook your rice on the stove or in the rice cooker?

We're both minimalists who don't like to own or deal with a lot of appliances or possessions in general. My wife's the only woman I've ever dated with only several pairs of shoes, for example.

We don't like to deal with a lot of things. I think it's because we're both messy people. If we don't keep our possessions to a minimum, we tend to create a mess. Rice cookers are very convenient but we prefer the more general-purpose Dutch oven which we can use for all sorts of things and not just rice.

Also we don't actually cook or eat rice that often. We favor low-carb and only high-fiber sources of carbs.

I use an electric skillet. I don't really have anything else.
I use instant rice. First, I boil the water. Once it's bubbling away, I add the rice and cook it for 5:00 with the lid on. Then, I take the lid off long enough to drop 5 squares of butter into it (one in each corner and one in the middle) and dump two cans of chicken that's already cooked and cut into chunks and then put the lid back on for another 5:00 on a lower setting. Get a plate loaded up, add salt and start eating!

I've always used a rice cooker. I'm shocked by how many people here just use the stove 😵 maybe it's because my half siblings are Korean so it was the norm growing up that we had a rice cooker and lots of rice in the house

Stove. Rice is rare on my table and if it's mostly in shape of milk rice. Specialized rice cooker makes no sense for me, but I think slow cooker would work as well with rice.

My Missus is Asian, so she "needs" the rice cooker.
Myself, I'm European; that's why it doesn't matter to me; I'll handle it each way :)
We also use the basket type steamer for certain types of rice. Or banana leaf wrapping in a hollow bamboo over a fire.

They do packet rice these days which go in the microwave, and its pre-boiled to remove the high amounts of arsenic (Yes rice contains high levels of poison) in 90 seconds you have a plate of rice for 2 people.

My wife cooks on the stove usually although we often buy parboiled rice which you heat in the microwave for 90 s. I like a rice cooker and I love "sticky rice" that I get with Chinese food.
