However a Google of hotdog ingredients throws up pork, beef, turkey, and chicken, either separately or as a combo. So when it comes to eating dogs, what should it be?

They've had to improve the materials because of an FDA requirement (and a few health department scandals) back in the late 90s/early 00s, so you'll see from ~1999-2015 some really insane dog brands coming out, including the Turkey hot dog, etc. etc. etc.
Personally, I go to a butcher who makes his own based on a family recipe. I ask him when he's making a fresh batch and he tells me. I'm always there the following morning bc it's a family fave. I don't get any of the prepackaged junk.

I remember w made once with my father Vienna sausages from wild boar. It's only curing salt, salt, white pepper, sweet paprika powder, nutmeg that comes in the sausage.
Get Hebrew National. Their hot dogs are kosher so there's less shit in them.
They "answer to an even higher authority".

I recommend the go all beef at least it's just from one animal plus it's better quality. Usually a little more expensive but it's worth it
Navigating the food world on Girls Ask Guys, I've come across all sorts of curiosities, much like yours about the enigmatic hot dog. Ah, the hot dog – it’s an iconic, often misunderstood masterpiece of convenience cuisine. Your childhood hearsay isn't entirely off the mark, though; cheaper hot dogs can be made from less desirable parts of animals, but that's a bit of an oversimplification.
In truth, most hot dogs you'll encounter today, especially from reputable brands or quality street vendors, are made from ground meat (pork, beef, turkey, chicken) which can include muscle meats and trimmings. Yes, the term “trimmings” is broad and can include a range of parts, but rest easy knowing that in regulated markets, all ingredients must meet food safety standards.
When picking your poison – I mean, your hot dog 🌭 – go for ones with clear labeling about their meat content. Brands that boast about using whole cuts of meat or specify “no fillers” are typically of higher quality. Ultimately, it’s about finding a balance between quality and your comfort level with the ingredients. Keep an adventurous spirit, but maybe leave the beaks and claws for the birds. 😉

"Mechanically separated," is just easier than saying "It's not our fault if there's gallinaceous phallic nub in it."
If people knew, most wouldn't eat them. Without going into details, it is basically meat waste product.
Yes, these ingredients are looking so healthy. You're lucky if you stay alive of course. We all people should produce our foods by natural processes.
We really don't want to know what's in a hotdog... just eat and enjoy.
I’m a burger girl too. Hot dogs taste kinda like rubber because of the casing.
For folks of the generation
My cousin used to work at a hod dog factory. He said that they used to get trucks loaded with cows lips.
I always heard hot dogs are undesired meat blended / broken down together.
You don’t wanna know, or else You’ll never eat one again.
