Well, I am just going to guess on this...
I am 63 and grew-up in New York.
I became a legal drinker on my birthday in January 1981 when I was 18.
The drinking age was upped twice and ID requirements eventually included a picture ID. So, twice, I could not buy alcohol...
First, in January 1984, the drinking age was upgraded to 21 but, for a few days, I was still 20.
Then, even though I was legally old enough, someone checking my ID (my NY driver's license) rejected it because I still had one of the older (but still valid) license which did not have a picture on it. That pissed me off.
Anyway, I was never much of a drinker ever - including beer - so I cannot be sure of what my first legal drink that I actually purchased was.
Likely, it was a "tall boy" can of Miller beer.
I am guessing my first mixed drink that I legally purchased was either a sloe gin fizz, which my friend Debbie turned me on to, of a mellon ball, which my girlfriend's mother turned me on to (she was a bartender). It may have been a whiskey sour though because that was one of my parent's go-to drinks. That, and gin-and-tonic. Neither of my parents were significant drinkers though - we never had beer in the house and maybe a few bottles of liquor for when people came over. Wine was purchased as needed and never kept around. Still, my first alcoholic drinks were probably my parents giving me tastes of things when I was a boy. I remember the first wine I ever like was Fu-Ki Plum Wine which my mom liked (although it may have been Gekkeikan Plum Wine - this was like 50 years ago...).
I finally inspired someone!!! Lol I think I shared this in that previous post but it was some terrible liquor (that I almost spelled licker... get some coffee man) that was lit on fire in a shot glass.
However, my close friend that shared this experience with me reminded me that this drink was at his house.
My first official drink at a bar was a long island iced tea lol. They taste good but have a lot of alcohol in them. Be careful with these lol.
Also side note, this was 25 years ago for me. Longer than the time it took to turn 21 by four years lol. That's funny to me but it seems like yesterday. Enjoy this time and be careful out there. I'm going to say the equivalent of don't tell anyone to some you tell a secret to when it's implied to when it regards drinking in a bar. I know you know this but I have to say it.
Watch your drinks and don't take your eyes off them. If it's a bottle of beer thumbs over the opening when you're holding it, get Ubers, and have accountabilabuddies
Hahahaha. He must like you.
My first drink I remember was Jim Beam whiskey mixed with coke… with my boyfriend at the time. Don’t drink that lol… definitely don’t recommend that. It tastes horrible.
I’d recommend starting with something like a mojito or even a fruity margarita. Something smooth and fun so your first drink feels celebratory, not like punishment LOL
I had gin though I wouldn't recommend it. It's not the best alcohol to start with. I would start off with tequila. And do maybe tequila sunrise. Tequila is a pretty smooth drink especially mixed with something else.
Haha. Orange juice and grenadine.
Me too. And it is! XD
YW, girly!
Thank you for MHO!
Mine was a Negroni when I turned legal in Italy during a summer trip 🇮🇹 Bitter, strong, a bit too sophisticated for that age, but it hooked me on classic cocktails.
I’d recommend starting with something balanced and not too sweet: a good gin & tonic with quality gin and lots of ice, or a whiskey sour with fresh lemon. Both let you taste the spirit without being overwhelmed. 🍸
Haha probably so. These AIs kill me lol
I'll bet money that you are lying lol
perfect response. the site needs to chill with the AI responses.

I drank already wine from bar of my parents with 5 and without their knowledge.
Legal for my 18th birthday was 18 yo. red Krimskoye sparkling wine. This was one of the best wines i drank.
I did most of the drinking I've done in my life before I was legal to drink - and that wasn't a ton. But, if I'm not mistaken, the first drink I had after turning 21 was a Bicardi Breezer, probably cranberry or maybe orange flavor, and it was weeks after my 21st birthday. My girlfriend at the time really liked them, so I would buy them when we were having people over and I would have one occasionally. As I remember, they came in 4 packs with 4 different flavors, but I didn't like the lemon/lime or the watermelon.
I have no idea if those even still exist, but they were popular in the 90s.
Yeah. It was an early pre-made fruit flavored cocktail, obviously with rum. It was popular for a while, but soon there was lots of competition, and I guess people kept going to the next new thing. Meanwhile, I stopped drinking entirely more than 20 years ago, so I haven't exactly kept up on the offerings.
Well, I was in college, so that pretty much means that I was drinking before I turned 21... LOL... But I remember when I turned 21 I was back home visiting, and I went to the local liquor store and bought a 6 pack of Heineken. If I had to do college over, I really think I'd focus on drinking less... 😎
It was a cheap disgusting wine and it started way before I was legal. I played basketball in junior high school. And after every game , we would go down and shakey's Pizza. And one of my friends, his brothers were older. David would buy us this cheap cheap wine. It was worse than mad dog, 2020. That's stuff would make you chase car tires barking like a dog... lol
probably not legal in college I went on a field trip because I was such a good fella and had a glass of wine. it was free... what could possibly go wrong? what a mistake, I was woozy.
its not my thing, I'd rather keep all my faculties... god knows what I have is just sufficient, don't damage anymore.
I don't quite remember, I was too young. My parents had friends over at our house. They all went downstairs and chatted a little longer. I wanted to know what alcohol felt like, so I emptied the contents of a glass. I forgot how old I was, maybe 10, maybe 12. My parents would never have found out, but my sister, who was always on top of me, spilled the beans.
It was a Yuengling lager. I'm from PA that's kinda our thing. Or it was 20 years ago. My best friend has the same birthday and we were at his house for dinner. His dad handed his son a beer. "Here Bob, your first league beer" then he handed one to me and my twin brother "here your first legal beer"
Hell yeah. I miss my home state. Philly boy. Mostly lived in Bucks county though. Bensalem. 1 block outside of NE Philly. You?
My Best friend went to college out there for a few years. Worked at a shingle plant on lake Erie. He told me a lot about that part of PA. you ain't a Penguins fan are you?
Who knows? I went to college at 17. Even though the drinking age was 21, there was no enforcement on campus. But I didn't really like drinking, especially not mass-market American beer. These days there are some beers I do like, and some whisky, but I still don't like being buzzed.
this beer exactly, when i was freshly 18
Ron Corina gold rum. That was my go-to when I was an alcoholic. It's disgusting, but so is all straight liquor.
Start with just some Franzia box wine from Kroger, chillable red. It's another thing I used a lot, I was a mess... Those days are done, get liver function tests done every now and then.
Never think that being an alcoholic is fun, there's nothing fun about it, it's lonely, stupid and you're sick all the time, so take it easy, please
don't remember my FIRST drink. but the drink i drank most when i first started drinking was Snapple Kiwi Strawberry Lemonade and Vodka
Beer. I was much older when I tried stronger stuff like whiskey.
Same here. Two glasses of wine and I'm feeling tipsy. It also depends if I had any food with the wine or not.
Probably a Bud Light. I honestly couldn’t tell you for sure.
I do remember my first drink of alcohol ever was Budweiser though, because my mom would always use it to make beer bread when I was younger.
I was already occasionally drinking alcoholic beverages before I turned 21.
However, I kinda remember drinking Stolichnaya Vodka with tonic water during my 21st birthday celebration.
Honestly couldn't tell you 😂 I've never really been a drinker. There are some drinks I enjoy, but to me it's generally not worth it.
Fair enough. I don't have anything against people who drink, even if they drink too much. I just wouldn't do it myself because I want to be aware of things and have all my senses. We're all our own people, we do and should make that decision for ourselves. If you have dependents though it's different.
I don't recall the actually drink. But before drinking age my father made plum liqueur and I got to taste a glass of that. I think alcohol tastes to much like medicine and not very tasty at ALL.
Jungle Juice. I had a NASTY hangover the next morning
It's effectively a witches brew of whatever you can think to put in it. People make it differently, but the overall goal is to have a LARGE amount of alcohol for a party. Most make it very fruity, like a fruit punch or a sangria, which is what I had that time.
Cannot recall. A beer or wine cooler. Maybe a screwdriver.
My dad let me take sips of his beer when I was a kid so I never looked forward to being 21.
When I turned 21 I never went out drinking. It didn't matter to me.
@abbycado can't remember. Lol. It's not a throwaway joke.
I choose not to drink. It's like coffee to me - it does nothing for me.
I'd rather a soda - even a cup of water 💦
@abbycado just saying - on reflection before you hit the 2-1 - Your liver, brain and life decisions will thank you by saying no the booze. "You booze you lose" Adam Sandler, Big Daddy.
@abbycado as I'm about to delete 😅👀👍
@abbycado and if you do, mentally ill judge you humbly - lol. Take care - cheers lol 🍺🍻 🍷
@abbycado at least I've always challenged you Abby 💯 as I'm sure you challenge people on here. Humbly. To grow - or at least - to hear some push pull as much as push back and forth 👍😅
@abbycado try never to be a mean girl. There's enough of that on some reality shows I watch. Some times they make me grateful I remain single all these years and ongoing. Some people are just viper's and venomous not generous lol 😅🤣 cya wave wave 👋
I had a drink in the Bahamas when I was 18 called a Rhett Butler. It was Southern Comfort and orange liqueur. I’m not legal yet in the U. S., but I was there.
I'll be 21 in 2 months so I'll let you know. But I have already had beer while I'm in college.
Rum and coke. I didn't even finish it. I drank from 16-20. I wasn't drinking when I turned 21 lol
Southern Comfort, and I hated it. I still do.
Johnny Walker Whiskey
Yeah Me Too 😂
my first drink was whiskey when i was 11, i started drinking pretty much regularly at age 14.
Beer. I don't remember the brand, tasted like the inside of a gym sock.
I usually drink non-alcoholic drinks, but I tried many different alcoholic drinks, I think my first was some kind of beer.
Somebody gave me a glass of sherry. I nearly choked. A little later I discovered beer, and I never looked back.
Probably a beer of some kind I think, but I had been drinking it before legal age to be fair
$300 a bottle shiraz. Can recommend. Especially if others are buying.
M my first drink was a strawberry daiquiri but my favorite drink is a Shelton
If i don't rememer wrong my first one is jack daniels.
I used to have a novelty ID to buy drink when I was 16. I had a fake name on it. I proudly took my birth certificate to buy drink when I was 18. They asked for photo ID. I showed my novelty ID with a different name and was declined.
Beer but i dont remember the brand. It was cheap though.
I recommend never consuming alcohol. Its ruined many lives.
tom collins or screwdriver - I forgot which.
Some kind of grape whine but I wasn’t legal I was like 12. i can’t remember my first drink honestly. Probably those nasty cheap Mexican beers you see at the gas station
Some craft beer. But I was drinking far before legal age in USA
I don't like alcohol I don't I think I ever will I only drink juice and soda.
Spiced rum with a diet coke and a lime
Water or soda. I'd have a seizure if I drank alcohol.
Why toy with a leading cause of addiction and traffic fatalities?
