Absolutely true. I've done judo and kung fu and was also taught by my dad. its saved my life. girls should cse most times when guys rob u they'll try rapin and killing u 2. it doesn't mean that cse ure a women an attacker is going to go easy on you they don't care about u they will hurt you. and its your animal right to hurt em back.
Great take. Couple of years ago there was one of the most disgusting rape incident happened in my country. Which motivated girls to learn martial arts. Now after reading your take I'm very happy that this positive message can be spread globally. Plus 1 to #WomenEmpowerment

I couldn't agree more! Great take I do MMA, Krav Maga and BJJ all of which compliment the other and do keep me safe and in check with the discipline aspect. I really do think women to get into the spirit more and take it up

I know I might sound a little nuts... But if a guy ever tried to get me on the floor to sexually assault me I'd honestly try my best to BITE him and claw him everywhere I could. I like the leg move, but I'd probably mess it up so I'd stick to acting like an animal.
I would love to take martial arts but I don't think I have the discipline, patients, or physical strength for it. For two summers, I did Muay Thai and Karate but then my doctor said I should stop before it causes further deterioration of my scoliosis.
I'm sorry you had to stop. I can understand the Muay Thai and scoliosis. Muay Thai is absolutley brutal on your body
I seriously hope you reconsider training at some point, not necessarily for the conditioning, but just keeping your skills fresh. Even getting a punching bag and working on striking is good enough :)
Muay Thai was hell fun though! I throughly enjoyed practicing with the instructors and sparing with my friends.
I think I will someday. I was told swimming is best though so I'll start diving and snorkeling lessons this summer and see how that works out. :) A punching bag would be awesome but my family doesn't promote what they view as violence. Oh right I also did this thing called Arnis for 2 years.
Hahaha, when you get your own place, get a heavy bag :P
I did swimming in high school and it was the perfect way to balance martial arts. It helps your joints and muscles recover. It'll also definitely help with your back :)
Great article, I would add the following, many of the soft forms (ie: Tai Chi) have a much better gender mix and a good instructor can teach the martial aspects of the form. I have seen a woman who is proficient in a soft form take down chalanger after chalanger in tournament it's scarily effective. Yes women are victems more then men but not as much as most people think (rape statistics in the US are 47% men and 53% women are victims) no need to perpetuate the stereotype. Thank you for sharing.
I have a marital art background for over 20 years!.
Learning basic self defence is ok but women that want to learn to fight are seriously BROKEN! Most of them never had a daddy and can't keep a good man so they learn to fight to find muscular energy!
Guys are biology programmed to fight in order to protect their friends and love ones.
I tell other men, if you want to GAIN 'muscular energy' and attract women, learn to fight!
How about cooking classes and learning about nutrition? 70% of the population is overweight which is the root of the cause of unhappiness these days. 1/10 of Americans are depressed. If a woman woke up everyday and was healthy and slim, would she be still living a self destructive lifestyle still?
You may have martial arts experience but you aren't very bright.
I want to know how to defend myself but I'm not "broken. " I have a good relationship with my father. I want and need to know how to defend myself because of all the MEN out there raping and kidnapping women. How about that?
And even if a woman is broken so what? Better learning how to fight than wallowing in despair.
Cooking classes don't save your life or protect you. Learning martial arts could.
And what do you mean by "if ac woman woke up slim would she still live self destructive life"? Who said women are living self destructive lives?
"Guys are biology programmed to fight in order to protect" first of all you mean BIOLOGICALLY. second of all obviously not given how many men are committing violent crimes
@been_waiting thank you for calling him out. Obviously he wouldn't listen to me, since I wrote the take, and clearly wrote a less than bright response.
You must be stupid. Just because a woman wants to learn how to fight doesn't mean she's broken. There's this phenomenon called "interest". I urge you to pick up a dictionary and read about it.
Why does enjoying a physical activity make one "broken"? Women enjoy sports just as much a men. We like being physically fit and learning new skills just as much as men. Everything you've said is so incredibly stupid. Myself and all the women martial artists I know come from loving families and have wonderful boyfriends. You really know nothing about women or life, do you?
I've been doing judo for years, but that's the only martial art I ever took an interest in. I agree, it's mostly men and I think that intimidates some women and turns them off from signing up for classes.
The reasons you've listed, may be important. I've been training in different martial arts since I learnt to walk; everyone in my family must do so, it's a tradition we have had from generations.
Except to be a martial artist you must keep your body is peak physical condition. It requires 3 vital things speed, balance and flexibility. It's not easy and it takes years upon years of dedication and hard work.
Women are usually smaller and don't have as much muscle mass as men. Men are physically on a more equal physical footing with other men. Since women are more likely to be in danger from men, having technical skills to deal with a threat is more important for women than men.
I said they equally need it. Because, While men have a larger muscle mass. It doesn't mean that makes them immune to being the victims of violent crime.
yeah clearly you didn't read the part where I said right at the beginning "As someone who has been in martial arts for a long time, and as much as it has benefited me throughout my childhood and teen years;keeping me out of trouble, my instructor giving me a good beatdown (verbal, not so much physical) whenever I stepped out of line with my parents, the benefits towards an adolescent male are exponential. But with that, I've realized about 95% of the friends I've made in martial arts have all been guys, very little to no women."
That does not make me a white knight, that makes me bringing out something I noticed and addressing it to a wider community.

Its all about keeping calm. If you train with guys bigger and stronger than you, then when it does happen in real life, it'll be easy
Source: the women I train with
But what if he's drunk or high? I won't know that until he gets close, so I figure it's best to go RAWR, y'know?
You're sober lol. You can think clearer. And the triangle choke in the pic is easy. It becomes second nature. I'm Not kidding.
But I do understand what you're saying though

swimming is great 4 disabled people :) its such a low effort exercise but it does a lot of good. I rec it if you can do it easily.

The fact that they're broken is irrelevant to me. Better they find a positive outlet than live a self destructive lifestyle

well said @ekc8295
I have never seen a more terrifying image than the cutesy cartoon depicition of rape. I did not need to see that.
Anyway, I like combat sports. I did them b4 becoming housebound disabled and I like 2 see girls fightin ⚢
The pic was from a blog that I cited at the end. Needless to say, it delivers the message

I guess that's the major factor. Its like guys and dance/cheerleading. Nothing wrong with it clearly lol

Just one of those pics that circles the internet
The reasons you've listed, may be important.
I've been training in different martial arts since I learnt to walk; everyone in my family must do so, it's a tradition we have had from generations.
Hell yes, women should know martial arts.
The weapon that never runs out of ammunition, needs cleaning or registration!
Always deadly, always available.
... until you become an amputee -_-
Still got teeth
FYI, if you become a master of certain martial arts, you do have to register yourself as a deadly weapon and can't fight anymore
@M_A_X
Only if you tell someone ;)
*flexes arms*
I AIN'T REGISTERIN' THESE GUNS!
@asker
Yes, teeth can cut like knives.
Bites hurt @JackKerouac77 lol

I want to learn how to do this

Karate level: Asian
That's Vovinam from Vietnam , impressive to look at , but NOT for a real street situation , too complex to execute under a real attack.
@FatherJack
oh definitely but like you said it's impressive to look at :)
Nice :D Pretty inspiring for women. I've always wanted to try it but never got the courage to I guess.
Don't be scared lol. Do it.
Women don't need it more than men. They equally need it.

read what I said to an anon that said the same thing
I said they equally need it. Because, While men have a larger muscle mass. It doesn't mean that makes them immune to being the victims of violent crime.
I actually started doing sports fighting at a womans fighting club just over a year ago and I feel a lot more confident now.
Everyone should learn a martial art, not just women, & the positive reasons should be obvious.. *sigh*... fucking white knight paladins, I swear...
You calling me a white knight? I addressed women specifically because of the lack of women where I train, and have seen it everywhere.
Whatever you say, brah.
yeah clearly you didn't read the part where I said right at the beginning

Okay.
because we're ninjas and everyboy is kung fu fighting
i like it both, thats why i have my own belt! and my man too)))
I was in wrestling in high school but that doesn't count maybe one day I will have the time and money to learn to fight.
I agree. I've been looking for some women boxing or martial arts classes in my area but can't seem to find anything.
I did karate for 8 years actually all of my life have done sport karate and boxing, self defense etc ...
I was the woman's red belt champion 2012 and 2013
