Do girls say "i can't believe you don't have a girlfriend" out of pity?

I'm 22 and haven't been in a relationship since i 18 was nor have I really had a "serious" relationship. I would like to get a girlfriend, but ever since the girl i was dating when i was 18 broke up with me i lost a lot of confidence and haven't been able to attract anybody else since.

Many of my mates have girlfriends and they ask me why i don't have a girlfriend, or if there is anybody i'm casually sleeping with and when i tell them i have neither they begin to question me in disbelief saying things like "but you're attractive and a good guy" etc, one of them even said she would sleep with me if she wasn't dating my mate (awkward). Are girls genuine when they say this, it makes me feel pretty good but i don't understand why only girls who are taken compliment me like this.

They're most likely honestly surprised that you don't have a girlfriend. I'm completely surprised that one of my boyfriend's friends hasn't had a girlfriend since I've known him since he's good-looking and a great guy. I'm not sure I'd tell him that though, I wouldn't wanna make him feel awkward lol.

They don't feel pitty. It just surprises them the fact that u dont have a gf, considering the fact that you're a good guy or handsome (cuz thats what they said)

Why don't you tell them that if they have any single girls that they think you might like to give them your number?
Surley your friends girlfriends must know some single girls.
And no they probably say it because your either good looking or you have a attractive personality.

If you get it from multiple people than it's pretty positive that they aren't just trying to boost you up with lies. They probably mean it. You may just lack confidence in self which is like the number one thing that turns off a girl. Don't know why, but that's what they all say.
