Girl invites mutual friend out on "date". What does it mean?

So some backstory, a few months ago we plan a group date but she backs out the day before saying she's sick. We more or less don't talk again until school starts.

I ask if she wants to go to a gallery opening and she says she's interested but then says, "Are you going?". What? I say yeah and then she says, "We should go together." I concede that this is probably not a real date but I wanted to spend time alone with her anyway.

Then today a mutual friend of ours says they were talking together in class and he was invited to come with us. I'm confused.

She knows I'm interested in her. She could have just said no. Unless she really wanted to go to this gallery opening?

1. she's not really interested, but didn't want to cancel again so invited a friend to make it not seem like a date.
2. she's nervous of being alone with you and thats why invited a mutal friend (but this wouldn't make sense with the Group date)
hope this kinda helped, if i would be her and not interested i would have either said yes but making sure it is just as friends , or nope.
