Yoga pants... what's the reason?

I'm sure you've heard of or seen yoga pants at this point. (If not just take a moment to look it up online so you know what I'm talking about) They're pretty self explanatory pants, they are worn to do yoga. Except people don't just wear them for yoga, they wear them out and about, at school, at work, at home, everywhere. But why? What's the point in wearing these pants other places or times if you're not doing yoga? Of course most people have no complaints. The girls wearing them claim it's for comfort, the guys looking are just looking because they're skin tight and show girls bodies very well. This idiotic trend bothers me though... I don't know how many people are bothered by it... I was curious as to what other people thought, girls and guys. I'm bothered because it is so obvious that girls are wearing them not only for comfort (clearly). It's to get boys attention, to have them stare, to check them out. Girls want everyone to look at them in their tight body hugging pants. I'm not saying getting dressed up or looking good for the sole purpose of feeling confident and attractive is neccesarily a bad thing. It's very good actually! Everyone should be able to feel that way. The thing that bothers me most about them is the painfully obvious reason for the attention. It seems to be purely sexual attention. Also the pants aren't even everyday pants, they're called yoga pants. It bothers me that people wear them places other than yoga. I think this also ties into the leggings only as pants as well, because they're basically the same thing. It just seems inappropriate and attention seeking. This trend annoys me immensely. Especially since a lot of girls claim they don't want that kind of attention... I know there are a lot of different people, with different reasoning. Plus I can only type so much here. So tell me what you think of girls/women wearing yoga pants or leggings or other clothes similiar to that. Do you think it's attractive? Are you annoyed as well? etc..

First off I HATE any sort of attention. When guys try to talk to me on the street or something, I speak my mother's language and act like i don't speak English , or i show them my "wedding band" which is my ring spun round so you only see the band.
Attention from guys makes me feel so horrible and self conscious and is partly one of the reasons I never want to dress nicely or have nice hair or wear make up.
Yet I wear leggings. Leggings and jeggings, although the same fit as yoga pants are kinda different. They're a part of fashion. Leggings and stretch jeans (which is basically similar to jeggings) were very fashionable about 20 years ago too. Everybody was wearing them when I was a little kid. It's just like mini skirts, ripped jeans, denim dresses, shirts round the waist and every single other fashion. Things come and go, they're in then they're out again for the next 20-30 years. Some, like the mini skirt, long high slit skirts and leggings can cause controversy, and some people call it immodest, but you know what, fashion is what you make it. You've got your style, orher people have theirs, I'm sure there's certain things about your choice of fashion they'd question... That's just what fashion is. Some love your style, some hate it, some are indifferent and some just wonder what the fuck you're wearing.

I get what you're saying, you make a good point. It's just one of those things where it's so popular, and like 8 out of 10 girls are wearing it. It seems a bit bothersome and since guys make it clear what they think of them. One can only think that every other girl just wants to jump on the band wagon of getting guys attention. Like that trend in the early 2000's where girls would wear really low cut jeans and their thongs pulled up high so everyone could see. That trend was very much for attention. And girls online take pictures of themselves in yoga pants and leggings and only show their bottom halves so everyone can see. I'm sure there are girls who really do wear it for comfort and not for attention but come on, we all know 90% is not doing it for that reason unfortunately which makes the other girls look like they're doing it for the same reasons.

I see what you're saying too, but I think with everything you get these girls who go overboard and scream for attention. Look at tanning, a lot of girls just like getting a tan and like how their skin looks sun-kissed, and then some girls pile on as much fake tan as possible and run around like oompa loompas.
I think just that today we're living in a time where most people scream for attention, social media is relatively new and something some people use for validation or to make themselves feel special by posting certain pics and reading the comments. Sexy clothes and social media don't mix well for some people, especially insecure young women.

But ultimately, even though I wear them myself and I say they're ok, I know deep down you're right, because when I have a teen daughter I will NOT allow her to wear leggings haha, I know what comes with it and even though I don't acknowledge the attention I know guys do look and it's not nice.

It's not an "idiotic trend' just because you don't like it. Girls wear yoga pants... because they are pants. Girls wear leggings because leggings are pants. Shorts and skirts aren't pants but no one complains about it. I personally wear yoga pants and leggings as regular pants on the regular because they ARE comfortable and they often go with a lot things and they're inexpensive, it isn't because it's "for attention." A girl wearing a skirt isn't asking for attention, a girl wearing great fitting jeans isn't asking for attention - they are appealing to their personal taste in clothing.

Also, they aren't inappropriate considering they cover just as much as jeans and more than skirts do. Are people supposed to wear clown pants to make sure that no one can see their shape? All bottoms are made so your shape can be seen unless they literally don't fit. So I don't understand how a pair of leggings or yoga pants is worse than a skirt, or jeans, or trousers, etc.

First off. I take offense to that because you don't know that girls just wear them for attention. I sure as hell don't wear them for attention. They are comfortable and yoga pants aren't meant just for fucking yoga. So don't even say that it is pointless.. Leggings are used to go with cute outfits and under skirts and that. So don't say girls just wear them because they are skin tonight. So don't even assume because I do take full offense to that. And don't even try to say that I am lying and that I do wear them for the attention and sexiness because I am 110% sure that I don't. You only know some girls, you don't know that all girls use them for that. Most girls do use them as like sweat pants because they are comfortable. If they are like me, they wear them because they don't like the looseness of other pants.. All I can think of is that your jealous? But that's just the thing. We all know there are girls out there who definitely do it for attention. Since so many people wear them it's not easy to tell which girl is which. So everyone stares at both. It bothers me because no matter what the reason a girl is wearing them it causes a distraction. And it seems 9 out of 10 girls are wearing them everywhere I go. So it can be bothersome.. Where I live is rather close to a city, so the population is higher and the amount of people wearing them are as well. I can't go a day without seeing at least 20 people either in yoga pants, wearing leggings as pants, or something of the sort. Leggings aren't so bad as long as they aren't worn by themselves. I was only able to write so much in my question.. I would've gone into more detail if I had more characters. But it's just one of those things that you can't help but see at every corner so of course it makes you think about it and have an opinion.

It's not a matter of jealously. It invades my mind as it stares me in the face everyday to the point of loathing them altogether. I see them online everywhere, on meme sites, on my facebook feed, as well as in public just everywhere. And the girls online almost always post their backsides in yoga pants to get reactions and attention online. Even if girls are wearing them for comfort and don't seek attention. It has bothered me to the point of hating them altogether... nothing against girls who wear it for comfort, whatever yanno they can keep wearing them all they want it's their right. It's just one of those things I can't help but form an opinion about and wondered if others felt the same or wanted to put up a good point or argument . And I understand what you're saying.

I don't really see why people have such a problem with girls wearing yoga pants. They are comfortable. I wear them all the time to school and sometimes to work. I don't wear them to get a boys attention. If If I were going to get a boys attention, I would be wearing something much more fashionable. I am a very active person (not sexually haha), so being in yoga pants helps me to be a lot more flexible.

It's only become an everyday item for everything except yoga in places like England, Canada, and the USA. Everywhere else, women tend to dress way classier and believe that yoga pants are NOT PANTS. They wear them to the gym where they are supposed to be worn.

Women in North America and England have become slobs and don't care about their appearance. They believe in comfort over presentable appearance. Obviously the USA has a retro steampunk/rockabilly culture in some states, a culture priding itself on fashionable vintage styles but they're an exception not the norm. The rest of North America has become addicted to casual/sporty/"comfortable" clothing a. k. a sweatpants, yoga pants, hoodies, tees etc.

Ladies, if you wear something else that is not yoga pants, then you won't get that lustful attention.

If you wear yoga pants because it's comfortable,... well.. I guess it stand out as a reason, but if you do wear them besides the part that it's comfortable & some of you have mentioned that it makes your ass look great in them,... you will get that lustful attention from guys. Plain and simple. Just telling you realistically like it is.

I know guys love the idea that girls do everything just for their attention, but the truth is comfort is something important and convenience is another. I chase after my daycare kids all day and I can't do that in jeans and skirts as easily as I can in my yoga pants.

I usually don't get bothered by what others wear. Everyone has their right to wear what they want, dress how they want, and have their own unique style. It's just that every other girl is wearing them, I see them on almost every girl of every age. It's something extremely popular right now and it got me thinking. If it's THAT popular to where almost every girl is wearing them for whatever reason, I don't think I'd be as bothered if there were less people wearing them... It's definitely a topic to discuss when it is everywhere you go on everyone's body. I'm forced to think about them. I naturally form an opinion about them, and was curious how others thought as well.

And girls wear tight ass pants too which is just like wearing leggings and yoga pants. @Tthorpe16 calm your tits girl. I just think they look cheap. Just like I think things with lots of bling or animal print look cheap. Doesn't always mean the person is cheap. I couldn't care less what they wear and if they're really poor or rich. If the person is nice then that's great, but even then I can dislike their clothing style and think it looks cheap.
I've never heard of those brands. I'm not American. In my country it's a social thing that if someone wears leggings without a skirt or anything, they're low-class. It's just a thing. It's like if someone wears a fake Gucci bag with a fake Nickelson jacket they look low-class. Doesn't mean they are.
by the way I wear Levi's just because the shape fits me. In my country Levi's cost about €100 and are considered as high-class, but that's not important ofcourse.

I didn't mean cheap looking as in money cheap, I meant cheap looking as in tacky, inappropriate, trashy kind of cheap looking. Like they don't respect themselves kind of cheap. It's not a matter of how much it costs, it's an appearance thing. There are clothes that are inexpensive and last long, as well as clothes that are expensive and fall apart within the first week.
