Why am I always mean and rude to my crush?

I'm naturally very introverted and shy and I have social anxiety (idk if that has anything to do with it but just in case I thought I'd mention it). I can't help it, I'm nice around them when I'm with my friends but when they approach me when I'm on my own or if they get too close to me (like try to hug me etc) I like push them away or say something rude. I don't like it because I feel like I'm pushing them away and they won't like me anymore, which will obviously happen if I carry on acting like this. I'm also really scared of loving someone because my dad cheated on my mum and it's affected me a lot. Any advice or thoughts?

It could be that you feel shy and awkward around them so you act mean as a defense mechanism. Your parents' divorce could also be a factor as it makes you afraid to put yourself out there and be vulnerable since you don't want to get hurt. It might help if you can find ways to build up your confidence slowly, like start doing something you enjoy or are good at and excel at those. If your social anxiety is serious, maybe seek therapy

You act like that because you are protecting yourself from what you perceive as being a threat. If you were to put a cat in a corner and go to it in a menacing way, the cat would react in the same way. It would do anything it could to get out of the situation. It will take a lot of working on yourself to get through this. You will have to open your mind to new experiences and accept the fact that people don't want to hurt you.

I don't it has anything to do with your dad cheating on your mum. Maybe it's because you get nervous and awkward around him, so you tend to shy away? It's pretty normal.
