If a girl sits on a guy's lap, is that always considered flirtatious or mean that she's sexually interested in him?

We were having this debate in the staff room at work last night. A male nurse said that at a party on the weekend a girl he'd been casually talking to sat on his lap at one point (she said because no chairs were left), and so he assumed this meant she was sexually/romantically interested in him and trying to make a move. This turned out not to be the case, however! I don't personally think that just sitting on a guy's lap who you're not romantically involved with necessarily means you're flirting with them or interested, can't it just sometimes be playful and innocent? The general consensus at work seemed to be that it's ALWAYS considered "making a move" if a girl sits on a guy's lap. What are your thoughts?

The problem with this entire scenario is the words used ( playing) okay see really what this question hangs on truly is who's lap she sitting in... since we know women ( play) lol it not fair to assume she is doing so either way it's the guys reaction who lap is he already interested or just always sexually active or does he have a happy relationship an knows this gal is always playful towards him cause he ignores it an may be jealous of his bond etc XD XD XD of course it's flirting girls are naturally flirty.

It does not mean any sexual move. On the top it builds trust because it is an uncommon move and hence only trusted people are allowed to do so. So if the situation demands it , there is no harm in doing it. Because having a place to sit is more important than giving space for sexual thoughts.

I would sit on friends' laps, guy or girl, without any interest in them.
But like, if I were at a party and sat on a guy's lap, I can't imagine I'd actually be making a move like that, but I'd expect him to think that I was making a move. Honestly I'd think she must have lost interest in him talking with him or something.

In the context of two adults, I'd say it is very flirtatious but not overtly sexual. One of the most easily recognizable signs of flirtation is putting yourself in someone's personal space (you know, the invisible bubble that extends out to arms length on all sides of you). People who are flirting will often touch the other person's arm while they are talking or make physical contact in other subtle ways. Sitting on someone's lap clearly puts you in physical contact with that person. I think it sends the message, "I'd like to get to know you better", but not necessarily "I want to fuck you tonight".

It depends on how old the lap sitter is I guess. Like my nine year old cousin can sit on my lap and nobody will think twice about it. But if some girl my age did that I'd think she was interested in me. I wouldn't let her sit there if we weren't already dating, but still.

I'd say that if someone's going to invade someone's personal space or breach their boundaries that it most likely constitutes some sort of desire for intimacy.
