For the most part I'd say it's because of the entry of women into the workforce. I think it's feminism pushing that women shouldn't do the "women's role" too. I personally find it very unattractive, considering I can cook very well. I think the big mentality is that you should know how to cook so that you can feed your child and not just shove fast food and prepackaged snacks down their throat.
Stereotypical much, I'll have you know I can cook almost anything (including Christmas dinner) and I also work full time in Engineering
@Midnight_Kiss You are an exception and that is great.
You'd be surprised how many women there are in the Industry who can also cook and back and have a family, you just don't hear about us because it doesn't get the attention that something that can be moaned about does such as the unable to cook, living on benefits and other stories that hit the media do.
That's been my experience too. Just not many women around now who can actually cook. And it's not that I think one gender "should" know how to cook more than the other. Like you said, I think everyone should know how. But today there aren't many women who can.
You mean there aren't any women who tell you they can at the risk of ending up in the kitchen at every meal
@Midnight_Kiss I don't believe any women tell me they can't cook because they're afraid they'll end up back at my home cooking all the times. That's just silly. Women who are good cooks are proud of it, as they should be. Men too.
I've noticed a lot of people at the high school i went to just didn't want to learn to cook as it was "boring". I think people are lazy by nature.
Swimming against the tide perhaps?
I know how to cook but usually say I don't because either I feel like the guy is being sexist when asking or, alternatively, I would rather undersell in case they ever try some of my cooking.
It is a basic life skill that everyone should know.
Personally, I do not see cooking as a "woman thing" but as an "adult thing". I think that learning how to feed yourself properly is a big part of becoming independent.
Therefore I'd laugh about anyone, man or woman who cannot cook and pretty much see them as a child.
I agree with all of that, but it doesn't answer the question.
My answer would be that the women at your workplace are way too immature and maybe think that their behavior would be some kind of a protest against old gender roles. Which is pretty stupid if you ask me.
I agree. I think the mindset is usually some variation on what @MarilynMansonsSlvt posted here.
Lots of people dont. Its not a female thing. We live in an age where we can buy everything precooked. Back then people had to actually make stuff. Nobody taught them.
But that doesn't answer the question.
But it IS a female thing, and that was the point. I know far more men who can cook than women. Why is that?
More men can cook than women. Why is that?
It's a fact corroborated by a dozen co workers.

I know how to cook. . But why should woman care about cooking? How is this sad? Itβs not like only woman should know how to cook. If your male friends know how great for them. They know how to feed themselves. If your female friends donβt well 🤷🏽ββοΈ thatβs their choice. Iβm sure they are working to purchase food to feed themselves.
🤦🏽ββοΈ
Why is it only sad women dont know how to cook? Do you as a guy know how to cook? 🤷🏼ββοΈ its probably just because of how life is nowadays, i dont really know. I can cook pretty damn good if i may say so myself but i guess i get you. Kinda.
I do know how to cook. Very well, actually. And most of my male friends and family members cook well. Not true of most females I know.
I know there are women out there who know how to cook, but not as many as there used to be and not as many as there are guys who can cook. Most of them just don't seem interested.
Oh thats interesting. I find there are more women who can cook than men. At least whrre i live. But then again my dad cooks way better than my mom.
Because they depend on someone already to cook for them. Probably their mom.
I'm a woman and I can cook lol
You are awesome! Will you marry me? :)
Lol thanks ππ
Why the fuck should we? Like, as long as some people can cook, it doesn't matter what gender they are.

So I guess that is the mentality behind it.
Yep. I have more important things to do.

And there it is... the mindset that is at the heart of the problem. So sad.
If some men and some women can cook, that's enough. Some of us don't give a good god damn about gender roles, and are much happier sitting in our rooms and listening to David Bowie. I have other things I can do for men, and cooking isn't one of them.

So you want to depend on your partner later on whenever you feel hungry? That's pretty hilarious actually.
Oh I see, so you think your sexuality is all you need to make a man happy? LOL
I guess you're only 16 so no surprise here. Smart girls will mature beyond that mindset, but sadly it seems many never do.
@Hurlyburly nope. i can make frozen wontons and sometimes skip meals.

πππ Then good luck with that. Most of the frozen- of fastfood is pretty much disgusting when compared to something you made yourself. Maybe you'll try out adulthood later on in your life when you grow tired of this gross stuff.
Yeah, I'm guessing you're more like 12.
@ Asker
nope, I'm 16 and i don't care about what you think of my cooking skills or lack thereof

Well, sorry then.
