How would you describe a girly personality?

What are most girls like in your opinion or experience? What do most girls have in common personality- & interest wise?
Or if you’re a girl, what is your personality like?

Several of my guy friends now told me (independently) that my personality isn’t “girly” and that I’m too analytical and unemotional at times and somehow that really bothers me. They act like I’m basically a guy in a girls body. My main interests are philosophy, astronomy, politics, art, sci-fi & (certain) novel technologies. I grew up in a family where any intellectual interest was encouraged and basically no attention was put on gender roles so I guess I’m just naturally like this.

But does that really make my personality manly?
And is a girl with a “manly” personality a turn off?

Id say were pretty similar when it comes to personality. Im quiet, unemotional and analytical. I can act a bit silly at times though. My friends say that im not feminine which is why guys dont like me in a romantic or sexual kind of way, im not considered feminine enough to come that far. I feel pretty bad about it as well honestly. I want to be considered a possible girlfriend, you know? My friends on the other hand are fashionable, more emotional and sensitive, talkative, higher interest in cosmetics, can be more spontaneous and id say are pretty non-analytical.

It’s sexist that they believe a girl should be dumb and vulnerable. The concept of girly-ness is already a biased viewpoint. Personalities vary and it doesn’t matter if you’re male or female; personalities come in many forms. People that say you’re boyish or girly are dumb asf.

Well to me, I would say being a "girly" girl is more about her physical mannerisms, body language, way of talking, etc. -- rather than about her interests.

But as for fields of interest, there's nothing "manly" or "girly" about your fields of interest that you listed, haha; anyone can be interested in them. :) And it's usually more interesting to be with someone who has such intellectual interests, because you have more to think and talk about together. :)

Well I think unemotional is a big one
Girls are often also seen as nurturing and more caring than guys
For example. If u tell a girl that ur girlfriend just broke up she will probably give u some emotional support. If u are analytical u might be like „ok there are million other girls to try now.“
Being analytical can be seen as heartless because actually it is heartless.
Also I think being right is more important to you than keeping the peace

Welcome to the sexist socialization of gender. Media and society in general thrive on these myths about what and who girls and women are. These are harmful and reproduce themselves exactly by this feeling that one isn't being feminine enough. It's a large reason why girls in the US dont explore certain interests and career paths because they're discouraged from it in everything from social groups to school environments, etc.
But taking my political scientist/sociologist/psychologist hat off...

Being "girly" is pretty much the embodiment of these stereotypes with some added materialism. Being more emotional, sensitive, gentle, delicate, nurturing, less logical / analytical, dresses more "masculine" and less into beauty or fashion, more assertive and challenging of men and less accommodating to their egos/masculinity, etc.

However, being girly is also specifically childlike in some sense. Less bold or mature and more, well, like a little girl.

So it's used to mean childlike and feminine or sometimes just feminine.

Be who you are and stop worrying about this. If more young women spent time focused on being the best version of themselves and going after their dreams and less time trying to fit into some social mood, the world would be a better place. But many women are doing just that, to be fair, and you can join us by focusing on how awesome and unique you are.

However, if you're a tomboy or what not, yes, some men will view you as more like one of the guys. But the right matches for you will love that.

Personally, I'm some hybrid of things. I suppose I present feminine (I like beauty and fashion), and I'm not into sports or most things guys often like. However, I'm far more logical than most men I've met, when it comes to logical reasoning in the forming and deconstruction of arguments/opinions. I love talking about politics, economics, psychology, sociological research, and philosophy. I love to argue/debate, I'm very assertive and confident. I have a more dominant personality - I'm generally not passive/submissive, but it depends on my mood and environment. So my personality doesn't read very feminine in many ways, but it does in other ways - I'm very talkative and verbal expression is my strength, communication is important to me, I'm a helper/nurturer, etc.

We are shaped by our environments, which are often influenced strongly by these social constructions of gender. Dont add more pressure to your life by trying to force yourself further into that box. Do what feels you. Fuck the rest.

When I was growing up you were almost defined from birth, pinks and blues, dolls and train sets, rough play and play houses and that followed on into work with not only gender roles but pay grades that reinforced it. Nowadays, like my granddaughter, she’ll be who she wants to be so there is, thankfully, much less stereotypical roles.
So what is a girlie personality? Well I’d prefer to say what is a feminine personality and it’s one who empathises with others, cares, loves, mediates, is a true friend and is not afraid to show her feelings but cross her once and she’ll snarl but cross her twice and you may as well look for a new friend.

I once had a friend tell another she wanted to learn how to apply make up, so she would finally be a girl.

As a woman that uses very little to none, it made me feel sorry for her. I don't feel 'more manly' for that, or the fact that I work in a field with mostly men. Why should I? I'm probably thinking REALLY stereotypical, but someone who is interested in "girly stuff"... you know... makeup/cosmetics... dressing up... shopping... taking photos with their friends... hanging out at the mall... talking about crushes with their friends... and just in general, someone who is really emotional and puts a lot of emphasis on their emotional side.

Of course, no one will fit that description PERFECTLY. The average "girly girl" might also like to watch football with her boyfriend, or watch comedy skits with inappropriate but hilarious jokes... nothing is black/white, we all have a more masculine and a more feminine side... but again, I'm thinking stereotypes.

I think the general view of girlieness is based on being emotional and having high EQ. Generally men are expected to be the reverse of this. When I was a child this was even demanded not just encouraged where I lived. A boy was expected to be much as you described yourself. A girl on the other hand was expected to be more emotionally open. As to your interests these are neither girly or boyish but men have in the past have been expected to pursue stem feilds. Woman in the past may have been blocked from these feilds but when they weren't they did just fine in them and it has since changed to a more equal expectation.

I guess a manly personality would be interest in things/topics that usually are predominantly occupied by men. I think a girly personality for me is someone who is uplifting, jovial, or happy a lot of the times. Someone with a radiant personality, hard to describe but I know it when I see it. Topics that I’d consider “girly” would be those concerning the welfare and care of things, like plants, animals, and people. It doesn’t strike me as girly to be analytical and unemotional, but that doesn’t mean dumb or unintelligent at all. Some gender roles are biological and others are influenced greatly by the encironment (upbringing, friends, school, etc.), so certain things are just always going to be more girly or feminine and others will be more manly or masculine

I'm not the most femenine girl but nobody would say I'm masculine either. I'm more like a neutral kid. I don't like to play princesses or fights, I just paint in the wall when mon doesn't look.

I made once a test related to androgynia who would tell if I'm femenine, masculine, both (androgynous) or none (undifferentiated) according to society roles for males and females. I'm none. I'm out of law. Maybe you are an undifferentiated person too. Who knows.

a girly girl is someone who cares only about superficial things and is usually a big gossiper/backstabbed/troublemaker, hence the stereotypes most girly girls/popular girls get in movies. they’re also very judgmental and constantly concerned about their looks and keeping their image perfect, also drama queens. that’s usually personality wise tho, appearance wise they’ll be wearing a lot of pink, usually dresses uggs/high heels, lot of makeup things like so. then there’s tomboys who act little more laidback and not so serious and girly all the time, not that there’s anything wrong with either, but i think boys personally like a little bit of both. not too much of an annoying over dramatic girly girl, and not too much of a macho man tomboy. balance is key.

It's stereotypically girly to be interested in classical topics such as philosophy, politics and art. I think girls like classical and romantic aspects of astronomy, stargazing, motion of the Moon and the tides with Newtonian mechanics, Galilean relativity etc, because girls are intuitive, classical physics is intuitive. Don't know which novel technologies you're talking about, for example Blockchain or neural net are male dominant. I know little of mainstream Scifi. But pop sci like Carl Sagan or the black science guy is girly while crackpottery seems to be a male thing (I haven't encountered a female crank before)

I think a girly girl is mostly appearance, they like very feminine clothes, without being overly sexy, they are goofy and innocent but that doesn't mean they are stupid. Just a tad naive.

That's what I think and anyway it's hard to hard labels nowadays as everyone is trying to be who they are and not conform to certain expected stereotypes which is a great thing.

Being interested in science and philosophy isn't manly by any means, it just doesn't have anything to do with gender roles. I am just exactly the same, I also have pretty much the same interests, I always use logic, still I am still girly, I am sensitive and caring and I am also pretty girly in terms of style interests. So in my opinion, I think it's completely separate from gender roles (which are stereotypes anyways)

You look very feminine in the photo, if that is indeed you. For me, intellectualism is a very sought after trait when it comes to the opposite sex. It doesn't make a girl "manly" if she' is interested in mathematics, philosophy, or other sciences. The only way I would consider a girl "manly" is if she doesn't wear feminine clothing or is rough around the edges.

Shy, gentle, submissive, make-up, and looking pretty takes at least an hour to prep before going out.
But there are times I just swipe a layer of lip-gloss and I am ready to go out.
Ignore what the boys say life is stressful enough that you do not need more of this boys.
