A girl gave me a lot of signs of interest (through both her body language and how she acted), and it took awhile to get her to relax. She flirted some, either spontaneously, but if she flirted intentionally, it was really stiff and awkward (and I often didn’t realize it was a flirting until I walked away). Building rapport and comfort was a big challenge. When I let her know I was interested, I slipped off the tightrope I was walking across, and she got really awkward after that. She wasn’t really that friendly, social or spontaneous around anyone, and I felt like we had a connection.

It felt like I was creating artwork, but it suddenly ended up an awkward mess. It dawned on me that she was likely social anxious or extremely shy. What are signs a girl fancies a guy, but she is socially anxious or extremely shy?

What a lot of you people do NOT understand is that you have to stop trying to read into things assuming somebody wants what you want. Attract is JUST attraction. It doesn't mean they want a relationship with you unless they make it VERY OBVIOUS that they do. She is trying to see who you are as a person. She is in no rush to be dating if dating is even what she wants with anyone in the first place. it's not that she is socially anxious or shy. She's guarded. She is selective about who she invites in her life, and being shy is her way to test the waters, so to speak. She is testing you. Because she doesn't want to trust the wrong person.

Socially anxious people may be quiter with more people around, take different paths than others would deem easier in order to avoid people, often will clutch something often (for me it's my phone), fidget, sometimes have a hard time keeping eye contact, responds to messages either really quickly or it takes forever (both are anxiety coping skills)

As to if she likes you
Orients her body towards you when y'all are together, attempts to conversate, or is receptive to your attempts to conversate, smiles more often around you, is more anxious around you thean around other people or the opposite may be true

Lack of eye contact. I have been face to face with crushes, and I can't even look at them sometimes cause I'm terrified of them knowing.
