Why do girls play cat and mouse game?

The girl i like is playing cat and mouse with me at the moment. Like when I first met her she was really chatty and I could feel both us been drawn to each other everytime we lock eyes. Suddenly she acts all shy with me now for no reason. Some days she kinda ignores me, but the moment I start not giving her attention she imitates conversation with me somehow. Then the moment i start chasing her she goes into this shy/nervous thing again. I'm always the one initiating text message, but she replies. I'm so confused and it's driving me crazy about her.

My mate has noticed her body leaning in towards when we chat and her eyes widening the moment she sees me after not seeing me for a week. She will always be willing to help me as on multiple occasions she is always very helpful

I've noticed her getting pink cheeks when she is talking to me at times and my mate said when her eyes widened her pupils dilated and she smiled. That same day she came up and said hello again 30min later. I made her really laugh once and she clapped at same time, that was in a group conversation and the other girl just laughed. But my crush clapped as well. Her best friend as well just started talking to me suddenly when I didn't even know her friend. Her friend just approached me like she had already known me
