Why she keeps me in her life at all?

My ex broke up with me recently, there was no tensions, she just was not ready. She still cares for me but said it would be better not to talk and see each other as it would be too problematic and emotional for us, so no contact. Yet, she keeps me as a friend on FB and constantly follows my FB stories, like every single one, straightaway as if she is somehow interested in watching my life regularly. This kind of behaviour is strange for me because it is not something I expect from someone who would rather avoid me. What do you think?

You may have answered this when you said “she still cares for me”. I understand that she said she didn’t want to talk.

Could this be her way of just keeping up with your life?

But... what for? For how long? If she cares enough to do it everyday, do you think she will ever reach out?

I can’t answer how long or why. Maybe it is her way of staying connected without talking. I know, weird. I wouldn’t really do that if I had no intention of talking to a guy, but everyone is different.

I would say your chances are better that she may reach out again some time than if she just shut you out completely.

I love her and totally accept her mental issues, she has depression and said, she is mentally not ready for being in relationship. However before that she got close and was the one who initiated everything. So I know she did not fake it, there were clear signs like driving to me at night just to give me medicine when i was sick. I let her watch and dont contact her because i tried and the more i try to force her, she backs off so its it better to let her be.

That is a really tough situation and I feel for you. It is so hard to let someone you care about deeply, but that might be what you need to do right now.

If she has mental health issues, best let her sort that out before diving back in. This now helps me see that maybe one of her coping mechanisms with her depression might be following your life on FB. Maybe that brings her some sort of peace.

Yes, exactly this is how i feel. I did not mention that she said that keeping in touch now would result in some big drama. I understand. Also, that fact that she keeps following me on social media regardless what she said before is a sign, for me, that she wants to be involved somehow.

I agree, it definitely sounds like a sign that there is a level of interest. As mentioned previously, maybe she just feels like she needs time to sort her mental health before getting emotionally involved with someone.

Yes, obvious. I remember once I said to her friend that she is the reason for me to stay in my current city. It shocked her and she said that I should let her to get to know me slowly.
