What is one of the worst mistakes you've ever made?

I have thought about posting this question for a while, but have hesitated cause it makes me look really stupid, but whatever... I guess I'll get it out of my system and can look stupid, don't care it's all in the past.

Mine was when I was new to doing hook-ups, my first hook-up with a guy went okay but the 2nd one with the same person. Was an absolute nightmare. After having some decent fun. I passed out, I woke up the next morning and he was gone.

He had stolen all my stuff, my clothes, my purse, my car keys, everything. I got robbed, so stupid, I was so mad at myself. All this for maybe $20 dollars in cash, he even stole the blankets and sheets off the bed and the towels out of the room. There was nothing to cover myself with to leave the room. Even if I could, my car was locked, with no keys and no phone.

No idea why he did that if he was pissed at me or what. He seemed to enjoy himself and never said anything.

I learned a lot from that, do not try to be nice and rotate who pays for the rooms, make the guy always do it and do not ever drink if friends aren't around to watch over me. Also have extra clothes in my car, hide a key and leave everything I don't need locked in the car.

Well to be completely honest with you I had to be selfish and make myself smile because if I didn't and I don't know why this is because I don't really know you but I would have chewed your ass up and out one side and down the other put yourself in that position after everything that you have been through in life after all the bad ass experiences that you have gained and have knowledge of Because of Who You Are you are an asset to this world and I believe you are here for a very beautiful reason I don't know what it is yet but I know it's way up there on that list and I really did I wanted to just chew your ass out and I don't know why that is but I wanted to I'm not sorry but I do apologize about the uniqueness of what I said it was probably pretty rude and pretty bold but it could have been worse and once again I don't know why I feel that way

I'm just a light weight and since this wasn't our first time, thought he was a decent guy. I rarely drink cause it doesn't take much.

And after all that, the lesson you learned was not that hookups are a bad idea and should be avoided, but all that crap you wrote in your last paragraph? Amazing.

My worst mistake was probably getting drunk and doing/saying things I shouldn't have. I have a Jekyll/Hyde complex when I'm drunk. I've since stopped drinking but I never should've started.

I think we all feel stupid thinking about our mistakes. They say that you learn from them, and you do. Sometimes those lessons devastate you in the process.
I was dating a girl for about a year. I was totally in love as was planning a future with her. I trusted her with my life. That being said I gave her access to my checking account. I figured we would have been married soon and she would have access anyway. You can guess what happens from here. Yup.. she stole $100,000 from me and disappeared. Never to be heard from again. That was four years ago and I still have difficulty talking about it.

Not getting enough sleep and being super active and athletic in cardio (even more so than I already was) as a child. Maybe I could've completely avoided precocious puberty and not have become the runt I ended up as.

Sucks that happened to you, but unlike most women, at least you learned from it and didn't just "blame patriarchy" that you got robbed by some scumbag. At the very least, it sounded like you were in a hotel and he didn't rob you at home, cause that would've sucked much worse. Plus, he left you your car behind, so there's that.

I do not know what to say about what happened to you. Of course I am sorry but I guess I am just glad that you just got ripped off and not killed.
I cannot think of a worst mistake than the time I drove to Montreal from upstate New York. I went up through I-81 over the Thousand Island Bridge. I got on the Queens Highway the wrong way and almost ended up in Toronto before I figure out I was going the wrong way about two hours later.

It's a mistake only if you don't learn something from it. So despite getting myself in bad situations or doing some stupid crap, I don't consider them mistakes. Because I learned something. I think in your case it's a mistake because you are still engaging in the same behavior. Do you really want to end up stuck in a hotel room naked, with all your things gone again or chance being found dead by the person cleaning the room the next day? Because those are two of the possible outcomes of the path you are on.

Bad at vetting, even though the first time was fine. Second time, he was an ass... but I guess he wouldn't steal the blankets from a room he paid for, but when I did he leaves me with the bill to replace them.

For me, my worst mistake was staying with an abusive boyfriend (now ex; happened many years ago) and acting as a guarantor for him.

Ironically I know another guy who said the same thing about his first ex wife, and he is 46 also. Must of been something about that time frame back then. He also used the exact phrase of he was very naïve and she took advantage of him.

Depending on the sort of way a person was raised back then, it was possible to be very sheltered and to be idealistic about romance and marriage. People didn’t talk about personality disorders or narcissism much. That a man could be abused in a relationship was pretty much unthinkable, at least the way I was raised. A guy was just supposed to “suck it up.” And of course, divorce was through the roof so it was expected that marriage was hard. I had little experience dating so when I finally did get a girlfriend, I struggled ahead even as the relationship deteriorated. It was the biggest mistake of my life.

I never wanted guys to know where I lived, room is cheaper than a separate apartment somewhere. Although in fairness, a few months after this my friends and I did go in on a separate apartment for fun parties and activities. Didn't need rooms anymore, but helps to keep stalkers at bay. Now they could stalk a place that is empty most the time, rather than where we actually lived.

Done that too, but some guys may have roommates and it can be awkward and loud. Really it is situational.

This guy and I actually drove to meet, we lived about 60 miles apart, and met in the middle. Of course he could of been lying about where he lived.

As for the roommate situation, the proper thing for him to do is to politely ask his roommate to step out for the evening. Most guys would oblige. (I certainly would, and have.). It's common courtesy.

Also, in my opinion, it's a good safety measure. Because if you know where he lives, you can easily identify him to the police in case something were to go wrong (God forbid). You tell your best friend where you're going beforehand, and you set up location sharing from your phone to hers.
