I like this girl but we are just friends as she is not interested in me romantically or sexually. We still hang out on occasion and sometimes we do fun activities and other times we go out for drinks at a bar etc. We follow each other on social media so we are always checking out each other's stories on Instagram. I've noticed that whenever she is out with her friends she dresses really nice and wears make up. However, whenever we meet up she doesn't do that. She wears minimal makeup (if any) and doesn't really dress up at all. She mostly wears casual clothes whereas with her friends she she dresses much more stylish and attractive. I get that she may feel comfortable around me but even with people she's known for way longer than me she still makes more of an effort. Is this her attempt to maybe repel me? Maybe she think I'm not worth making the effort? I know we're not dating or anything but whenever I meet her I still make some sort of effort. I make sure I'm dressed nice and style my hair etc.

I do this unintentionally. I personally feel more comfortable being myself around my friends or people I don't know bc I know they won't judge me and I don't feel confined to anyone's expectations of me. One of my ex's would say the same thing that I dress up around others but not around him. It could be that she feels uncomfortable being herself around you

Also if she's not interested in you romantically or sexually then you just answered your own question. She may just not feel the need to impress you bc you're just a friend

That's my point though. Even with friends who she's known for years she wouldn't need to impress them either right? But she still makes an effort for them.

She doesn’t want you to get the wrong impression, 9/10. Because you’re interested in her your hangouts have a different meaning than they do for her. She’s not stupid, she sees that. So if you guys go out, and she’s all dressed up then you’d probably think that effort is interest. In fact you’d probably take most positive things and turn them into interest, since you want that so much. She’s just trying to keep the message clear that you are only friends.
