Why does my friend always tell me not to go to events?

So I’m friends with this girl. We are also mutual friends with this other girl. The mutual friend we have invited me to her party a few weeks ago, and my friend told me not to go to her party and to focus on my work because I would be working the next day. Me and my friend work in the same job and there was a conference day about a week ago. My friend told me not to go to the event because the manager was going to be there and it would be awkward if I saw the manager as we hadn’t been getting along. I showed up at the event anyway and my friend seemed surprised that I showed up and she basically ignored me the entire time and spoke to everyone else.

Why does my friend keep telling me not to go to events?

The most likely explanation is that she just didn't want you there for some reason she didn't want to express since her stated reason was utter BS.

Get to the bottom of it talk to her face to face and get her to tell you the facts instead of making you guess at it
