a man's mating strategy is polygamy hence he measures his success by the quantity of women he can attract whereas a woman's mating strategy is hypergamy hence she measures her success by the quality of the man she can attract and if an unattractive man (who would be deemed low quality) finds her attractive, she compares his level of attractiveness to hers and uses that to draw conclusions on how attractive she is and if multiple unattractive guys find her attractive and no attractive guys find her attractive, she's gonna think she ain't that attractive either.
