Girls, Is it common for an 8 year old to start growing breasts?

I was helping my daughter change the other day when I removed her top, i noticed her nipples were on little bumps meaning her breasts are starting to develope. Her childminder has also notice this. Her doctor thinks she has Precocious puberty. She is due to have ultrasound next week.

That's very young, although I've heard that both girls and boys are maturing faster these days for some inexplicable reason (GMO's?).

I believe a lot of it can be contributed to the changes made in how we now live. Just as people are living longer, children are just naturally developing quicker. Other outlying factors could be nutritional levels/diets (ie. sodium, vitamins, fat, sugar, etc. . .)

GMOs allow farmers to grow more crops on less land thus feeding us and livestock more efficiently and thus cheaper. Without GMOs you would be paying triple what you do now for less quality.

I quickly scanned the articles as I'm heading to work and won't be able to read them in-depth until later but I didn't see GMO mentioned once and GMOs and preservatives aren't the same thing.
