What does it mean when someone asks how are you, you say how you are and ask how they are & they don’t answer?

My best friend asked me how I am and I said I’m good and asked her she and her daughter are doing and she didn’t respond but when I sent her an image of what I wad doing she responded to that

That's kinda weird. When you ask someone how they're doing back, it's usually just polite to answer even in a short way like "Oh you know, hanging in there" or something.

By her not responding at all to your question, it kind of seems like she wasn't actually interested in catching up and was just doing the basic "how are you" greeting without really paying attention. Almost like she wasn't really listening when you replied.

But then she responded to the picture you sent, so maybe she was just distracted by something else at the moment you asked her question back? I'd give her the benefit of the doubt for now.

Unless this happens a lot when you try chatting with her, I wouldn't read too much into it. Best friends can still have moments where they're a bit checked out sometimes. Maybe just try following up with her in person next time to make sure everything's cool between you guys. But I'm sure it's no biggie!
