Boyfriend doesn't "trust himself"?

My boyfriend and I were recently discussing him going to a party with one of his buddies. I knew he had been invited but he never mentioned attending. I told him I thought it would be good for him to go out and have some fun with his friends.

He told me that he didn't want me to be nervous or worry about him doing something stupid. I assured him that I trust him completely and didn't have any concerns. Finally after a little questioning my boyfriend said that he doesn't trust himself.

" I know I'm going to be hit on. All those girls are going to flirt with me. I know what kind of girls are going to be there and they'll be rubbing up on me."

I just told my boyfriend that if they do then those girls are sluts and just don't flirt back. He still seemed uneasy. He ended up not attending the party.

I had full trust in my boyfriend but now I'm not sure. If he's not even convinced that he can be faithful how can I be?

Well, the thing is that he might not simply understand that there are so many points at which you can make the easy decision not to take it further. Example- you meet a girl. You could say hi and be flirtatious, or you could say hi and be boring. If you're flirtatious, you need to get above a certain point in order to get her turned on enough to make a move. If you get her to make a move, you've gotta accept that move and then continue to take her upwards to the next level before you get to the next scenario. Then you must again allow her to take it further. At each level, you have a decision to either let it stop or build it up further. Make sure he knows this. Allow him to read his response. The road from Mexico to Canada has many stop-signs. You have the option to turn around at every point along the road.
