Taste in music IS a factor for me; if I wanted to hear sh*tty top 40 garbage or songs about guns, trucks or red solo cups, I'd turn on a radio or take back my job at Pizza Hut.
With that said, I am a metalhead. Devin Townsend is my favorite musician. But would I refuse to date someone simply because they don't know/like my favorite artist? No. I just want to date someone who is open to uncommon types of music. Listening to metal WOULD be a huge bonus, though.
musical preference generally ranks pretty low on a guys list. it's probably some other reason, like nervousness or religion..
Taste in music shouldn't be a deciding factor here, differences in taste are what make a relationship interesting. If he genuinely is shallow enough to be that concerned about your musical preference then he's an idiot who needs to grow a pair and realize that it will get him nowhere being so closed minded, not worth your time if that becomes apparent! I used to listen only to metal, I even had long hair.
Right now I listen to anything I like, doesn't matter is it death metal, girlie pop or classical music.
I've noticed that plenty of people who listen only to metal are ridiculously ignorant and think that their sh*t is the best music on the planet. Honestly, the most of metal is not even near to good, most of it sucks. Genre is not the scale how to measure quality.
You gotta just ask it to him. Maybe he will judge you, at least only to himself, but unless he's a complete moron this is not something that may be an obstacle between you.
I seriously doubt he would be stupid enough to not take the opportunity to sleep with a good looking woman because of her taste in music.
Could be so ask him straight up...
