I don't know why the colour pink is called girly? Every time I wear pink I get at least one question from classmates. Just couple of weeks ago I had worn pink shirt and a friend had given me a pink pen in gift. They saw combo of pink pen in my pink shirt pocket and I was suddenly centre of attention. I don't have muscles but I'm manly man and I like pink 😂 Same goes for showing affection or emotions or sometimes sitting with crossed legs.
fun fact: the color pink was originally masculine and blue was feminine until WWII when the nazis marked gay men with pink triangles, from then on pink was considered a feminine color and blue a masculine one.
Yet I've never had a desire to wear a skirt or order fruity drinks at a bar. I think most girls clothing looks miserably uncomfortable (high heels?). If I were a girl I think I would wear jeans and t-shirts everyday - which means I could be a girl without having to buy new clothes.
Buy a fruity drink some time, it will never be as good as an amazing craft beer but you're missing out, and seriously nobody cares, the only people who care are guys who are insecure
I agree to an extent I'm a guy I'd like to use concealer to cover up blemishes etc but I can't because if someone picked up on it I'd be ridiculed. I am a bit girly I wear bracelets all the time at least that's somewhat acceptable and I am in no way gay. Society can be a bit too restrictive on guys.
Men can use umbrellas or order drinks that has little umbrellas on them, but them wearing skirts and pink tank tops is going too far for me.

I really wish this could come true. Then I could finally "come out" with all my "feminine" interests and not care about someone seeing Pretty Little Liars in my Netflix queue or the stuffed animals on my bed. But until then, they will stay firmly in the closet cause I can't deal with the judgment and ridicule. :(
Honestly it would probably earn you more respect to learn how to be out with it and not care what other people think. Of course that's really hard, I'm just saying if you're confident about it you could pull it off
@frozenhorizon If feminine traits aren't respected by society, then how would flaunting them earn me respect? It would do the opposite. Why make life harder than it needs to be? I'm still true to myself by liking what I like, in private or online. But no point revealing things to people who you already know will react negatively.
I give it my best shot. Not dressing up too girly, but will set aside my beer for a hot chocolate or even a shandy. Keep my hair slightly longer and don't mind to overreact or squeal when enthusiastic or surprised. (For the image, I'm a 21, 1,90m and even got somewhat wide shoulders) I'm even okay with girl talk. ^^
Nothing wrong with my girly sides, cause they make me me!
No one questions that men are ALLOWED to dress like that if they want. The questions is, does it BENEFIT men to dress up in dresses and heels or generally to be more femme. I suspect you'll find the answer is a resounding "no." With the exception of glam rockers, guys who project being more femme will have less success with desirable women.
Does it benefit someone to dress how they want and to express themselves freely in a fashion that more accurately represents and portrays them? I'd say yes. Just because the general society doesn't accept more feminine males doesn't make it a bad thing. Also, everyone has their preferences. There's tons of people into "glam rockers" and that sense of fashion who'd find guys like that very attractive. Your personal opinions may appear to relate to the general public, but there's no true ties there.
@ebbyeb Sure, but you've got to play the odds. That's true for all kinds of aspects of life, but let's just take the example of dating. Most guys want to be successful at dating and that means getting women we find attractive. Now it's absolutely true that if you see a hot girl you can't know for sure what she'll find attractive. BUT you do know this: the odds that any ONE girl--especially if she's of high value--will be feasible are VERY low (as just one example there's a good chance she's already taken). SO to compensate you need to do two things. Make sure you approach as many desirable women as possible, AND make sure you increase your odds of success to the best of your ability. Now on the latter, do you think most guys would be best advised to pattern themselves after a manly man or would they be best off expressing themselves freely if what accurately represents them is cross dressing? The odds say the first guy will be WAY better outcomes than the second guy.
@ebbyeb Can you find exceptions to that? Of course you can--that's not my point. Are those exceptions incredibly rare compared to playing the odds? Yes they are--THAT'S my point.
Okay... But this MyTake wasn't mean for any of that. It's purpose simply lies in expressing an idea simply along the lines of, "gee, wouldn't it be nice if people could express themselves in whichever fashion they choose without being suppressed by society?" There was never anything practical applied here. Yes, of coarse, for the individual who makes any sort of dramatic changes, there'd be "consequences" as such. But I'm sure they'd be more than well aware of them. Also, never was it directly stated that literally all men would simply abandon all masculinity and not devote their lives to wearing lipstick and pumps. Again. You're argument is completely valid and I understand what you're saying, but that's never what this article was about. You interpreted it differently. And that's completely okay! I'm just pointing out that what you're saying isn't related to what the article is promoting.
@ebbyeb LOL! Cool. That's all good, but the reality is, no one is being "suppressed" by society. If a guy want's to dress in a skirt and pumps, he's totally free to do so. The main thing that's holding him back is that he perceives (probably rightly) that doing so will be costly to him and it isn't worth the cost to do it in public. Exactly the same way that while other men might want to express themselves by openly gawping at the hot, stacked girl in the office, they realize that doing so will probably be costly, so they do something else instead. lol! It's a fun take nonetheless though! :D Plus, I really like the 1920s style illustration.
I'm girly but I also wear jeans, sweatpants, T-shirts. I play video games, joke about crude things and do typical guy things. I don't believe in being a "girly girl" or a "tomboy". You're a girl who likes doing her own thang. You do you, boo boo.
Hmmm, well what I am saying is that the chance of meeting a female gamer has gone up incredibly rapidly since 10 years ago, I'd say within 5 years it will be almost a 50/50 chance of meeting a male or female gamer.
@frozenhorizon Of course it has, but video games in my opinion will always be a males thing. I have meet plenty of females who play video games but I don't think it will ever be 50/50. I certainty hope not.
@frozenhorizon A lot of males let games distract them from their responsibilities and the real world. Could you imagine a household if both men and women were equally into video games! It would be awful.
I guess that's true, I used to play them and I did fine but I quit because it's just a waste of time. But I'm more worried about social media and tv (aka netflix) because those do the exact same thing and everyone is into them.
Only because you women require us to be masculine. Are you going to deny that? Come ON! Women are NOT attracted to feminine men. Stop lying and misleading men on that point. The best thing a other can do if she wants to ensure her son has a miserable life full of failures with women is raise him to not be masculine. The more women recognize that about THEMSELVES, the fewer bitter men there will be in the world.
"When it comes to gender roles, women get the short end of the stick when it comes to relationship abuse, jobs, and sexualization. "
This ^^ quote is 100% bullshit. Women are the ones who are perpetuating gender roles more than men these days, and there are plenty of jobs women cannot and will not do because they are too dangerous or distasteful for then. And sexualize men just as much as the reverse, it's just that no one seems to care about it. Pretty typical of sexism in general today... no one cares if it's sexism against men.
The dishonesty, hypocrisy and double standards of women like you is astounding, and unfortunately you are pretty typical of western women in that respect.
hey man, have a quick read of the essay 'bros before hoes: the guy code" by michael kimmel. most of this forced masculinity is perpetuated by not women, but other men. terikovacs.files.wordpress.com/.../...-article.pdf Here's an excerpt Where do men get these ideas? "Oh, definitely my dad." says mike, a twenty-year-old sophmore from wake forest. "He's always riding my ass, telling me I had to be tough to make it in the world." "My older brothers are always on my case" says drew, a twenty-four year old university of Massachusetts grad. "They were like always ragging on me, calling me a p*ssy, if i didn't want to play football or wrestle. If I just wanted to hang out and like play on my x box, they were constantly in my face."
"most of this forced masculinity is perpetuated by not women, but other men."
Nonsense. My comments are based on real life, not some silly essay. What I wrote is quite obvious to anyone willing to observe what is going on around them with a a little honesty and objectivity.
@Elarra You sound extra immature, as per usual for you.
The difference between men and women in this regard is that men are honest about it. Women are the ones who are supposedly trying to abolish gender roles, but they only try to abolish the ones they don't want but protect the ones that benefit them. In short, women like you are enormous hypocrites.
Women are just very dishonest about gender topics in general. In the case of this particular subject, out of one side of their mouths they say "oh yeah, men should feel free to wear whatever they want and behave however they want", and out of the other side they say "meh, I'm not really attracted to him because he's too effeminate for my tastes". Typical female dishonesty.
I'm pretty girly and wear skirts, dresses and heels almost every day, but that's who I am. If a man wants to wear those, then that's who he is too. No problem. Enjoy, and let's go shopping together sometime.

No, it's not ok to be girly, I prefer tomboyish girls. The images you mentioned - of corse that a man in a skirt, tank top, and high heels is weirder. But I don't like girls in skirts or high heels either. My ideal type of girls wear jeans, shorts, sweatpants, t-shirts, crop-tops, tank-tops, sneakers...
The problem is that feminization of men is an established fetish. So anything feminine a man does is emmidately accociated with weird fetish things so its not gonna happen.
Uh, no. Just no. The classic FI directive... show your feminine side - MEN DON'T HAVE A FEMININE SIDE. Quit wishing for men to be like women - THEY'RE NOT.
@SpiffySpace That's something invented by women cuz they want to see their men as weak, but then they hate that and lose respect. Men are not women - they don't have a woman side.
Far better to to see that a man is protective and comforting to a woman in her emotional storm - the rock.
And no, acting girly is ridiculous. Women think they want that but hate it when they get it. At least they're not sexually attracted to it. Check out the hipsters - a bunch of girly men! LOL
What if a guy wants to, though? There's plenty of guys out there who choose it themselves, without being directed by a woman. I also don't really appreciate being grouped in with all other women, I don't represent any of them. I'm only me :)
i like when men are more girly, its more relatable to me and good thing that you wrote this take... I want more muscly feminine men <3 pretty hot to me.

@frozenhorizon I shall try a good craft beer when I get of legal age (any you recommend?)
@FallOutBoy2001 Lots of good craft beers here in San Diego. And much better than fruity drinks - if you're drinking the hard stuff, take it straight!
I'm on the east coast, but I do want to move out west after college so I'll keep that in mind
@FallOutBoy2001 There's great craft beers in the northeast (new york, boston, new hampshire, maine)
ULTIMATE SHIT TEST
Weak bets would dress like this to score points with women
