Why did he untag himself from photos posted by a girl he's dating?

I know social media doesn't mean much when it comes to dating but so far that's all I've got.

I'm interested in a guy who I think might have just started dating someone. As far as I can tell they've gone out a few times and she's posted pictures of their date on Instagram. But his Facebook status is Single and he recently untagged himself in those pictures.

Does any of this mean anything?

I'm just asking because like I said I'm interested in him but if he's with someone else then I don't want to get involved and I'm not close enough to him yet where I can just plainly ask if he's with anyone.

Could be single.
Could just think he looks bad in the photos.
If you're really that curious, just subtly ask in conversation... like, "that shirt is really nice. Did your girlfriend help you pick it out?"
