Why does he like to Snapchat me more than text me?

This guy is so difficult sometimes hahaha. Basically, we talked every single day during the summer. He started school, so we talked a lot less. Usually I let him start the conversation because I don't want to seem clingy or needy.

He Snapchatted me very randomly one day after about 2 1/2 weeks without talking, about one of my Facebook posts. He just told me "Nice post." I Snapped him back, "Thanks!" And all of a sudden, he decided to be sweet and tell me he missed me and I was beautiful and blah blah blah. It confused me because it was all so random. While we weren't talking, he does like every single one of my FB posts so he does keep ip when we don't text btw.

Anywho, I was kind of sick of Snapchatting so I told him to text me. He did, but the conversation was real short and he stopped texting me. It's been 2 days and I hear nothing from him. I feel SO confused because if he missed me, why won't he talk to me? Should I snapchat him tomorrow and see what he says? This is usual, but him telling me he missed me was a first.
