Why are guys against wearing skirts? Isn't a skirt technically just a piece of fabric? Why is it wrong for guys to wear a skirt?

I am wondering not because I am so deeply interested in wearing skirts, but because I feel like the only reason I am against the idea of me wearing a skirt is because of peer pressure!

Knowing that by wearing skirts, some people would legitimately murder you on the streets. Why is this normal? I don't know, lol.

Anyways, why are males against males wearing skirts? What is it about skirts that is so wrong that people would murder others for wearing a skirt?

(Although technically, I mostly just found articles about Muslims murdering women for wearing miniskirts and short skirts, in some cases by their own father or brother

History is a funny things. Romans used to wear skirts - even the legionaries did, but then women, wanting to be respected the way men were, started imitating men by wearing traditionally masculine skirts. Eventually men began associating skirts with the feminine and stopped wearing them and just began doing it like the Northern barbarians did by wearing pants.
Much later in the colonial era, high heels were a symbol of male aristocracy. But, again, women wanted to be more masculine so they started wearing heels as well. And again, men began associating high-heels with women's wear and in their desire to NOT be feminine and preserve their masculinity and dignity, they stopped wearing high heels.
Trends like this go on even today what with women wearing jeans and cutting their hair short - and look, surprise, surprise, Hollywood is endorsing long hair cuts for men. So, maybe women will start wearing suits to look like men and men will wear something else to not look like women.

I assume you're trying to imply that both genders should be allowed to wear whatever they want without prejudice. The notion is admirable and respectable but will not work in practice, since most men, even if they were allowed to do so, would not start wearing typically female clothing.

Preserving one's sense of self worth, even if it means doing something as simple as not wearing a particular type of clothing due to fear of being judged is not retarded. I won't walk around dressed like a clown for the same reasons I'm not going to dress like a woman - too much unwanted and negative attention and I would just not feel like myself any more.

Masculinity and femininity are two opposites - so what's wrong with trying to cling to one by not associating [wearing clothes] with the other.

But look at history - men and women had their roles and society thrived. Now the west is trying to abolish them and surprise, surprise, birth rates are falling.

I'm not saying the old model is good - I don't want to be my potential spouses boss - I'd like to treat her with respect of course. But, some roles for two obviously biologically different beings are necessary. A woman can not and newer will be able to do certain things that a man can and vice versa - some role division is necesssary.

Birth rates are falling because reproduction is not supported by the state. They make sure that you need TWO people working in a household to support YOURSELVES, not to mention kids. If people didn't have all their money extorted from them, this wouldn't be a problem...

People didn't have ANY money long ago and still they had 5+ kids with NO support from the sate. On a side note, one of the reasons for the falling population is education plain and simple. The more educated you are, the less kids your end up having.

Also back then it was expected of women to be baby factories and it was expected of men to be walking wallets that support those factories. Now the old way of doing things is being abandoned and people are more free with their lives - and it ends up affecting the population.

Now, again, I'm not saying that the old system was good - it was bad in fact - but you can't deny that it worked to propagate the species and advance civilization onwards by creating new generations that would further that advancement.
Today, we make new technologies but not so much new people who are going to advance them further.

I think the type of people who would judge you to death (literally) for disobeying this "rule" is in my opinion actually quite simple. It is easier to just accept things than think about them, that is why so many people have a religion chosen for them and they never even bother with seeing alternatives, after all.
