If a guy interjects into a conversation you're having with another guy, does this mean he likes you?

So there's this guy (I know, the start of every cliche). So last year, I had a massive crush on him. He always stared at me in class. He always started a conversation with me. When I was sad, he had my back. He made my day. Last year, he was my source of happiness. It was really great. Well, last year, my friend (who I do not trust anymore after this event, may I add) told him that I liked him. That wasn't her place and I was so mad at her. On the last day of school (when he found out), He said and I quote "I already knew" and walked off. WALKED AWAY! Can we get a jerk of the year award over here? Anyway, that event made me think. I had summer break, which was 3 months. That was a good time to think about this event. My results was "obviously, he doesn't like me back. He would have said something if he did... right? Anyway, I come back to school and I realize, it's just going to awkward, I'll just avoid him. I was ignoring him, but he kept trying to talk to me and I did minimum words back. As time went on, things were back to normal. As if nothing happened. He has that type of personality. Well, this year, since I switched sections for band, we are not in the same one so we don't really talk as much as we did. He still talks to me on the occasion though. Today, I was talking to this kid (who everyone in my section thinks I have a crush on, but I don't) and we were laughing and we were perfectly fine. All of a sudden, He randomly jumps into the conversation. It was so random! This was about the 3rd time it's happened this year. It's throwing me off. Does he like me? Did he like me? What do I do? Please help!

1st hypothesis: maybe he likes you and is too shy to tell you (is he the shy kind of guy?), and so, is possessive about you

2nd hypothesis: maybe he finds you interesting, and wants to keep his options open. kind of like keeping you on the hook. otherwise he would have said something, before or after your vacations

3rd hypothesis: well he is kind of a jerk, so interrupting two people when they are having a conversation is definitely his forte

to me, the 2nd one seems to be the most likely, honestly...

I think he likes you, and is becoming desperate to get your attention. Normally interrupting a conversation is frowned on.
If I were you I would try to not ignore him for a change. If he likes you, talking to him more will make it obvious to you. Hope I helped.
