Why did he smile to himself when I looked at him?

This guy used to have a serious crush on me years ago. He liked me for years, he would stare at me continously and would stare down any guy i talked to. He didn't date any other girls, but he's super shy so he didn't ask me out. Even after he went to college and came back, he still liked me and stared at me in a really obvious way. I ignored him like i always did, even glared with him a little. (he stared alot-it was creepy). At an event i saw him flirting with another girl and he was smiling and he looked at me. I was like wtf? So I was with some girls in the hallway, and he and his brother walked by and one of the girls said "Yummy." I laughed uncomfortable and said "what did u say?' I looked at them to see their reaction and when he saw me lookinig he was smiling to himself.

first of all... get him alone somehow and first let the convo start slowly.. give him some signs that you like him... then ask him if he's ever been out with someone.. but first make sure he's comfortable before you ask him... wheen u ask him just add before hee starts talking that u like him and you want to go out with him... if he agrees...
