Why did he talk to me yesterday, but not today?

I am suspecting that my crush is trying to time situations perfectly so he can run into me, but I'm not entirely sure.

-He takes the longest way home possible from school, it's completely out of his way. He has done that 2 days in a row, and it's timed at the same time I go by his house.

-Yesterday it seemed as if he waited for me. I had to deliver something to his house, and while he was walking he looked down at the ground and smiled to himself. He then turned toward me, but with a straight face. I spoke first (hi, have a nice day) and all he can ever say to me is thanks. We spoke once before and he said the same thing then. He seems a little slow to respond, then once he does he will turn away.

-Today he took the long way home again, but he didn't wait for me this time. I don't understand why, I was very friendly yesterday and gave him a big smile. Why didn't he talk to me today? Does he not like me? Is he just quiet, or playing games?

*I don't know if he blushed, smiled, or looked right into my eyes when we talked. Every time I see him, the room seems to spin. He did seem to look in my eyes though. He also stares/looks/glances at me about 95% of the time.*

He's very shy, that sounds like something I would do. You have to open up to him first, he's obviously trying to get you to talk to him. After he says thanks, try to start a conversation with him, about school, about anything. Don't take his body language as a way of showing he likes you, I know I come off as neutral and not interested. He might not want to make it too obvious he likes you, hence keeping some distance between you two so you won't think he's weird. Just know that getting him to open up will take some time.
