Any number of possibilities: maybe a dare to get your number, trying to get as many as possible (as you mentioned), maybe just trying to conquer a few damsels, maybe he was standing-smashed, or maybe he's just nervous around girls and is covering it up with the macho act.
Drunk people are very repetitive. I'd say he was drunk. As far as using you to feel special, more content is needed.
He's probably a sociopath with zero social skills and actually did approach women like that all night. I hope you didn't give him your number if you did, you're probably f***ed. No offense but, the guy sounds like a real creep, be careful who you talk to when you go out.

No he was probably genuine about getting your number rather then trying to get a lot of girls numbers. Did he leave soon after? As maybe that's why he tried to get your number before leaving
