Why do guys like scaring girls?

A friend guy of mine sent me a scary video. It scared me a bit. I asked him him if he wanted to scare me he said yes. He is a grown up guy, I don't understand why he tried to do that. Is it a normal thing for guys to scare their female friends? Is it a fun stuff for grown up guys to do? Or was he just being stupid?
