You ask for it... miss see through. How many times you look yourself up and down in the freaking mirror before you go out? You knew it was a white dress. What color was your panties red? Stop bitching and take responsibility for your damn actions. Silly question!
Cat calling is just disgusting. It usually leads to stalking or sexual assault (in my case). People saying its a compliment should learn to give compliments.
No guys who give compliments like that are expecting to get laid. They just think of it as fun. If anything they probably don't have good experiences with girls and just say "fuck it".
If it is, I'm not socially acceptable. Meaning that I haven't (at least not intentionally... there were a few times when it was "timing") catcalled a woman.
I'll think to myself about something, but it will just say in my head.
I'm sure there's some guys who catcall. Flip side also is being successful with women needs a guy who is uninhibited--and very few women are ladies anymore, so what's the big deal?
Its become unacceptable. There isn't a lot of people who do this. I don't see why its so offensive to people anyway, a minute of discomfort in your life is that horrible? And there's plenty of ways women disrespect men.
Cat calling is lame and dead as fuck... get some intelligence and convo and you maybe good to go

It should be illegal, where are feminists when we need them? All feminists are doing is suing good men and framing them to get paid, fucking disgusting. It's sexual harassement and it should be BANNED everywhere!
It's never been socially acceptable, but just because it's not socially acceptable doesn't mean people aren't going to do it. Murder and rape aren't considered socially acceptable and yet people still commit these acts. The difference is, is that catcalling isn't illegal like murder and rape are; and even if it was it doesn't mean that people wouldn't do it. It doesn't make it right, but it certainly isn't considered socially acceptable.
@ScoutLeader107 Yeah, but it's ridiculous to compare those two in the same breath... Besides the ones you enumerated and punishable by law, catcalling never was and never will be.
@LittleSally Not at all. Morally, wrong is wrong. I'll concede that on the spectrum of what is wrong, catcalling is pretty far from murder and rape, but that doesn't take away from that fact that it is wrong and considered socially unacceptable. If the only measure for determining if something is considered socially acceptable or not is if it is punishable by law, than I think that we as a society have a lot to work on. Cheating for example is generally received as socially unacceptable and wrong; and yet it is not considered punishable by law. I assume from your original post that you believe that catcalling is wrong and socially unacceptable. I would also assume that we could agree that women in general do not like catcalling and find it socially unacceptable. I also would assume that, while your original post suggest that all men find it socially acceptable, you do not believe that all men do. Going with that as the base of your original post, I would think it incredibly
ignorant to believe that men are the only ones to initiate in catcalling. Though far more unlikely, women have been known to engage in catcalling; and if women are participating in this, than you would have to include them in your belief that belief that catcalling is socially acceptable or risk being labeled as sexist. Assuming you are not sexist and believe in equality among genders, your original post would have to read "Hasn't it always been socially acceptable? At least among men and women?"
@ScoutLeader107 Sorry, but you're talking about all of this from the perspective of an American... It's immensely different where I live... And I can't even imagine you comparing cat calling with rape. Would you feel the same way if you were cat called vs raped? (Rhetorical Q... no need to answer. - both of which are much more likely to be done by men than women... by the way.)
@LittleSally Jesus, give this guy a break lol. Are you even trying to listen to his point? He wanted to point out a fallacy in your original post. Men don't all nod at each other when they hear about catcalling. A good number of us get angry imagining it happening to our close friends and family, or cringe in disgust at the mental state of the men who do it, or even fear that the next time we ourselves make a move on a girl we're connecting with, the compliment or flirt will get stuck in our throats because we're afraid we'll be seen as gross too. It's hard to understand, but if girls are always talking about how little they trust men and how sick they are, you're obviously going to be afraid the person you love thinks that of you too. No men find catcalling socially acceptable, select men do it, just like select men commit crimes, but it seems unfair to stereotype all men into rapists and catcallers when they aren't representative of all of us.
I highly doubt the point of his response to you was to change the subject to "catcalling is synonymous with rape and murder." It hardly seems fair to blow things out of proportion like that by reiterating his wording and do the classic "so you're basically saying". He's saying what he's saying, and he's saying, snipping the two words of his paragraph is Journalist level interpretation. There are male criminals but men do not condone criminal acts in any way. At the end of the day sexual harassment is akin to rape. If it were girl to girl, a rape victim wouldn't say something like "oh you were groped?" or "oh you were trapped and verbally harassed by men?" and treat it as if the other girl went through a laughable experience. In that way they are very similar. It isn't socially acceptable amongst men, and the people who do it are rarely from good education or psychologically balanced backgrounds. The guys that cat call have problems, but that doesn't apply to ALL men. End of story.
In some countries it is, in other not. For example in Dominican Republic it is a widely spread phenomenon. In Switzerland if you do so you are seen as a pervert
its become a lot more common and most women dont say anything back so men think its okay to keep doing it bc they haven't been told not to by the person theyre catcalling

If anything, it's becoming less socially acceptable. I haven't seen any examples for a very long time. People are still shouting abuse at each other though, but it's not sexual.

I think it's the opposite. It used ot be acceptable, now it is not.

I think its a social norm, but not socially accepted. Like, we just let it happen, but still frown upon it
If it is, I'm not socially acceptable. Meaning that I haven't (at least not intentionally... there were a few times when it was "timing") catcalled a woman.
I'll think to myself about something, but it will just say in my head.
It's not acceptable. We just notice it and move on. Mature people either take it as a compliment or ignore it. You should do the same.
Not acceptable but tolerable. People learned to ignore what's wrong around them and the world instead of changing things for better

It's offensive because men show what they think about that girl, and in what context. You don't hear women catcalling men, do ya now?
No it's actually becoming more and more frowned upon. So much as they have started calling everything remotely flirty harassment.
Anyways what you've gone through is def inappropriate and I do hope those crude comments would get weeded out.
Women are fine with being catcalled if they find the guy attractive
