Do "fuckboys" & "players" ever get nervous (and/or change their intentions with/around a girl)?

There's a guy that has been talking to me when he'd see me outside, I'd give short replies and this went on for months. Eventually he stopped doing it suddenly but now he mostly stares when he sees me. I'm sure one of, if not his main goal was to sleep with me. I've encountered a "fuckboy" though and he was smooth, he wasn't nervous or anything, that guy happened to be my cousins friend. My cousin is also the same way.

Anyways this guy seems like one of those guys that is confident when his friends are around and tries to show off for them. He's more likely to confidently engage me when they're around, and even when it was only 2 others, it was like he was trying to think of things to talk about, and staring.

He seems nervous a lot and occasionally I've heard his friends either ask him if he was going to talk to me or ask each other if he talked to me. One time it even seemed like his friend was coaching him on talking to me. I don't know if he's just unsure of whether I like him or what. I heard one of the guys that's a mutual, say ".. the little one over there.. there's something about her". Not an exact quote but I don't know if he was saying he thought there was something about me in a bad way or if the guy I'm talking about said there's something about me...

I want to know so I can know how to approach him the next time I see him.

Thanks. When it first started month's ago, my mother was saying "he just wants some booty" (she says negative things anytime someone gives me attention though). I assumed that from the start anyways which is why I kept it short. Now my mother is convinced he really likes me, and when I told her he's just trying to use me & how all of the guys he hangs with know [about the situation & me], she's now saying "he could be trying to get his life together", "sometimes they need a "good girl..". He was just telling someone else the other day that he was going back to school. I have a lovely script written for him, so I can "neg" him and let him know
