What does it mean of a guy friend sends red heart ❤️ in a text?

For example - "Happy New year ❤️ Emily", "Happy Birthday ❤️ Emily" ... Followed by nice wishes & a few complements.
Generally people add heart symbol at the end of the sentence, but heart symbol before a name seems a bit different.

Orange heart - thinking about tangerines
Purple heart - too needy
Pink heart - colourblind
Black heart - wants you dead
White heart - mildly racist

Not really, but he complements me sometimes (most of the time over the texts). He's a bit shy.
He takes hours to reply my texts, but he calls me few times a week & we talk for 1-2 hours. He tells me about his day. We used to hangout one-on-one before pandemic. He once told me that he don't have anyone to open up to & he feels comfortable around me.

Some people in my college think that it's more than friendship, but I think we have this bond because we both don't really have anyone to talk to & we just click with eachother.
Sometimes he make me feel like I'm someone special & sometimes it's like I'm just a friend.
