Boyfriend randomly bought me gifts?

Been with my boyfriend for a little over a year. All this time, he has been a horrible gift giver lol. I've gone all out for him. I planned and paid for an entire trip for his birthday, and I bought him a bunch of stuff for Christmas.

For Christmas, he only bought me one small thing that I sent him the exact link for. For my birthday... he had put tires on my car a couple months prior. I'd been offering to pay him back for months, and he just kept saying he didn't remember how much they were. Then on my birthday, he said, "Oh, the tires are your present. That way I don't have to buy you anything." Not gonna lie, I was a little hurt by the birthday present comment. I was grateful for the tires and know that they were expensive, but the way he said it kinda hurt.

Anyway, over the last month, he has randomly bought me things. He first bought me a shirt (one of those nice, super soft cotton shirts - it wasn't cheap!). I wore it a few times around him, and now he bought me 3 more things - another shirt, a jacket and a button up shirt.

Why do you think he is all of a sudden buying me random gifts for no occasion?

That's what you wanted, right? Him to put more effort into giving gifts? Now he's doing it and you are still griping about it. Girls can never just take the win and be happy... everything always has to be questioned. It's very annoying.

Calm down. I'm not griping. Just wondering where it came from since I've never said anything about it to him. If you don't like the question, then don't answer. It's really that simple.

If you were that bothered by it, why didn't you talk to him about it?
He either figured it out on his own, or someone (you) helped him figure it out.

Maybe he read a book on how to buy gifts properly? Maybe he didn't realize how important it was to you until recently? Maybe he didn't really have the money until recently? I have no idea why he's doing it now. Does the reason really matter?

Think of it as "reparations" for his past. As to why now? Maybe his conscience got to him. Maybe he just wants to restart with a clean slate. Maybe he won the lottery and can suddenly afford the gifts. Maybe you'd want to subtly ask HIM.
