When are your I love yous on text genuine?

im a little narcissistic which my best friend knows so he always avoids admitting he loves me bc he knows it’ll only boost my vanity and he's always careful who he says i love you to. so whenever for any reason i’m like « but you love me so » he normally replies something along the lines « whatever helps you sleep at night ». recently however, he actually admitted it and ik it’s genuine bc he doesn’t normally say it to anyone. so i began wondering, how many times when you’ve said i love you to a girl was it genuine? are there specific people you’d say it to? or would say that to a girl just to get something?

I've only said "I love you " to a girl twice. It was to the woman I proposed to twice and who turned me down both times.

I would never say "I love you" just to get 'something'. in my opinion, that would be pathetic. In fact, saying so would make me expect to lose any respect that the woman in question had for me.

Speaking only for myself, saying "I love you" is not a phrase to be tossed around idly. It has to mean something.

I have only said it when I meant it. Oh in text? Never. In text, I'll respond to an I love you with 'you too'
