It's because the guys you are talking about - the only ones you probably care about - are the Top 10% guys. Those guys will never have problems attracting women - most women desire to be with them - so they have no reason to settle down and choose only one woman to be with. Those guys mostly care about the girl being hot, fun, and being up for anything. Sometimes even just because they are a challenge (but only if they're hot enough to make the challenge worth it). Such guys are shallow and have no shame about it.

Guys in the lower 80% - the guys I imagine you tend to ignore completely - aren't like those men. Those guys want wives and children and stability and love - but most women don't want them - they want those hot, popular Top 10% guys. That's why is so easy for the Top 10% guys to use girls for sex and then dump them - or to pass them over completely - there's a line of 100 other girls waiting their turn with him, so rejecting one girl costs him nothing.

When a Top 10% guy DOES get into a relationship, the woman is almost always a 9+, and STILL those men often have women on the side, because they can. And while those guys might have sex with a woman who is a 7, they would never take such a woman seriously as a relationship partner, because they can get 9+ girls for that.

But, more and more today, even the guys in the upper half of the lower 80% - the "average" and the "above average" guys - are less and less inclined to want to be with women who have waited until their 30s to take a relationship seriously, and who OBVIOUSLY feel like they are "settling" (and treat the man as if he's lucky to have her), because if a woman feels that way, then as soon as she decides she's unhappy, she's going to be out the door and will happily use the court system to financially rape him. Women have thus trained men not to marry them, and in some cases to not even date them.

The women who have the potential to get men in the 8 and 9 range (the ones who are POSSIBLE to get and are still attractive enough for women in their 20s to want) are going to be women in their 20s, who have no children, few if any tattoos or body piercings, have a natural look, are fit, have a minimal number of past partners, and who are fine with being in a relationship with a man 5-10 years older than her. Those are the ones men are still willing to marry. SOME men are willing to marry women who are older, or who have kids already, but that's a small and shrinking percentage of men (and they certainly aren't 8s and 9s). More and more, men are only willing to date such women casually, or remain single, because women have made anything more than that too expensive for men to justify.

Again, yes, a few exceptions exist, but trying to find an exception in an already difficult situation makes a hard task nearly impossible.

First off, it depends how hot they are.
Secondly, being "locked down" can be perceived as "secure", also known as "boring".
Having to pick one person and being contempt with that particular person is a big decision, if a woman is looking too far forward, we need to do the same and that's when you see the drawbacks of sticking with one person. You have to consider their jobs, family, etc. If you have a fling, who cares, live in the moment, who knows what'll happen.

My idea of being locked down had nothing to do with not being able to play the field.
