Do guys just flirt and compliment women for banter?

Do guys flirt with women they don’t find attractive, and compliment them? Would a guy ask you about your life if he didn’t find you interesting? A guy I know occasionally flirts with me, tells me I look good, and asks me personal questions about my life? Is this just banter or?

I did (not so much now that I'm married) and I suspect many others as well. I'd even flirt back with old ladies for whom I had no interest at all, and I think we both understood that. That said, what I reserved only for women I was interested in was more the physical touch and serious tone. I wouldn't place my hand on the thigh of a woman I wasn't interested in or be that playful all the time if I was truly interested.

I think it's different for every guy though. I think some will only flirt with women they like. I wasn't one of those as kind of a joker who likes to goof around. In my case, the way a woman could tell that I actually liked her is that between the laughter, I would shift to a more serious and sober kind of tone. I'd interrupt the girl's laughter that way.

Okay soooo …: this guy is a work collegue. Ever since I started he’s always been relatively nice to me (but he is nice to everyone) he walks by me regularly and flicks my pony tail, on occasions tugs it. He’s said things to me like … when I was with two other women he said (you look good Betty) the other women said what about us, and he replied but she spends all her money on herself. Other things like I mentioned I didn’t like Christmas…. And he said i could always come over and we could drink wine or champagne …: another female said but Betty doesn’t drink …. And he said but I bet she would if I came over. He’s asked me personal questions about my life and things like that..:: told me I am a nice person etc x

It could be just banter, but only with a girl I find attractive in some regard.

Sounds like he wants to get to know you better and I wouldn't call that typical banter.
