Why do you lower the volume on the radio when you’re driving and looking for an address?

I lower the volume when I need a lot of concentration. Or I want to think.
Humans can't really multitask. It just downgrades the quality of all actions.
Also, music doesn't sound good, right, when in a depressed state of mind. Sometimes I look for the right music, but if several songs go by and nothing clicks, I know it's probably not going to happen.
Good question lol think a lot of us do this without realizing... Why? 🤷 Maybe we think we can concentrate better with the volume lower I don't know lol
Your brain is a computer.
You can only process so much information/sensory input.
When you need to focus on one task it helps to basically free up RAMWatch a program that you've seen often. Mute the program. See how much new stuff you've never noticed before.
I just use the voice button and have the assistant find the place. Once I press the button on my steering wheel. Any music from my phone is muted until the interaction is finished. No need to lower the volume.

I don't do that when I'm looking for an address however I notice that I will when I'm driving a busy highway, such as 270, here in Ohio. It goes around Columbus, the state capital but it's still a very busy highway. I notice I'll turn it down to drive it, I think because it helps me pay attention more, less distraction, to drive a complicated road
For the same reason you close your eyes when you're trying to solve a math problem in your head- removing a stimulus lets you concentrate more on where you want to focus.
I don't drive but I've seen people who drive doing that. I guess it's because they need to be focused and my music distracts them.
Can think more clearly when there isn't any distractions
I guess it only shows how distracting loud music is when driving.
Because you need to fully concentrate on the roads and driving.
To be able to concentrate better.
I never play the radio when I'm driving... lol
To avoid being distracted
I have to hear myself think.
