Guys, Is the guy friend-zoning me hard?

So a dude and I have been spending some time talking, like he calls me or texts me most times. But we don't meet that often because he gets caught up with work and deadlines most times. And when I left the city to meet my folks. He has been calling me at least once a week. He mentioned once over call that I am the only friend he has that is a girl and can open up to, and I'm not in town. Later, the following week he calls me and says he likes my laugh (we keep making each other laugh a lot). And very often he keeps thanking me because I am really sweet to him (apparently). I am really confused. He keeps saying he is tired of relationships and doesn't want any more shallow connections. He wants a human who he can hug and just kiss and no more. I can't read him. And I can't even ask him anything. I really like him and wouldn't want to ruin even a chance of us being close friends. Ughhhh... HELP ! Cause I think i am unknowingly deliberately friend zoning him hard, or is he friend zoning me?
