usually i'm not confident in myself when my level is much different from them regardless of gender.

what makes me feel inferior, for example, is dealing with successful people, or people who show off wealth, or people who are smart in appearance, or smart in business. but if the person is humble and friendly, maybe i can give a chance.

I hate it when someone says, you need to get more confidence. To me that is not something, someone just 'gets' it happens by successes.

I remember the first time I was texting with a boyfriend about what we wanted to do for fun (sexually) and he wanted details. I could totally talk to him about it in person but in text, I just couldn't do it. I finally just did and it was soo hard but it ended up not being a big deal and the more you do something the easier it gets.

To build confidence you have to do something and have it work out, if it doesn't work out that may actually do the opposite.

It is totally normal to have had successes in some aspects that make that easier but failures or no experience in another that makes that harder.

personally speaking... I do not have a filter or a valve for confidence, I will be confident and comfortable, everywhere, anywhere... with anyone and everyone, whatever settings makes no real difference to me... I am the same either way, but that is now

when I was a kid, and a younger teen I was just like you pointed it out, I'll just change the word to comfortable instead of confidence... with the people I knew, my family and my best friends I was absolutely comfortable and a lot less shy... but out of my house and away from my street which was familiar to me, I was painfully shy and extremely anxious... lol

and I did DREAD to talk with strangers, or anyone that I was not familiar with, especially girls... lol

Yeah in a lot of situations I can find myself a bit out of my depth or in a situation that kicks my confidence.

in fact I can be confident one day with it, then the next day exactly the same thing, not as confident.

I am overall confident, I view these occasions as learning opportunities, as in why am I not confident, what’s different.

I think we all want that. But when you first meet a person and you really like him/her, your so afraid of making a mistake and them not liking you anymore, that it just feeds the paranoia. At least it does with me, I would LOVE to just relax and not worry about being silly and he stops liking me! Oh, he will still try like hell to get in my pants, but after that… gone! (Well, that’s what I fear, anyway)

yes i understand. for me i used to always worry about boring the other person. but i fee like i've gotten a handle over that fear now. i just accept that sometimes lulls happen in the conversation and we can enjoy a few moments of silence with each other.

I have no problem with confidence even when talking to strangers. The older i get the less (what if) thought gets. I am well spoken and i am a gentleman, i don't do BS talk. And texting! Am just bad at it, super clumsy fingers too 😁
