Why did he bother to explain himself to me?

Si I’ve been chatting with him for some time.

This last time when we chatted I noticed that something was off. His replies were shorter, he wasn’t as playful as before etc. His responses were slow to too.

It bothered me so much that I left him on read for 2 days and then replied to his text.

then after that he sent me a long text explaining why he hasn’t been responding to my text like he was before (he had really good reason. He was basically on a hiking trip with his boys and he couldn’t use his phone like before).

Does that shows that he cares and he doesn’t want to upset me? Is he catching feelings?

Ask him. Nobody here can. It's almost like you're looking for the answer you wanna hear. You'll only get that in true form from him, only he knows hin intentions. Part of being in a relationship is being vulnerable, if you can't ask him then you're not prepared to be in one

It's just a question, just like the one you asked us. You don't have to be in a relationship with someone to ask a question. If this concept is too complicated for you to understand then you'll always have a ton of questions you're too scared to ask

Then ask him, if that's what you want. Men typically communicate directly so speaking vaguely won't help you ascertain how he feels about you. Relationships don't just cost men money. Could be that he doesn't have enough time and energy to enjoy a relationship with you. Men need a purpose and then relationships will fit into it, if he hasn't established his purpose then maybe that's why he isn't knocking your door down
