Boyfriend feels bad after violent argument in public?

A girl was starting to insult and threaten me, so my boyfriend stepped in and tried to control her but instead she kicked him where it hurts hard enough to send him to the ground.
So she continued insulting me and we ended up fighting. Finally some women came, so she ran away. And I was not injured

Now he keeps saying how unfair she was, that normally she should have backed off quickly.
I feel he is embarrassed about it and I already told him it's fine, I managed to defend myself but it looks like it doesn't help much.

I need some more ideas to understand his mind and help him.

An update to thank you and if it can help someone else tell you my boyfriend went a few times to a psychologist and I think it really helped him

I would definitely reaffirm to him that what that other girl did was unfair, he was trying to protect you from her and she assaulted him. I'm glad you were able to fight this woman off without gettting injured. I don't know you what else to tell you was this girl some random stranger, maybe keep some pepper spray or mase on you from now on.

Thank you! I was a bit lucky considering how badly she injured my boyfriend.
Yes someone called the police but when they came, she was far away I guess and we didn't know her. So I think they unfortunately won't find her.

He might be feeling that way, like he failed to protect you, but he shouldn't if he would have fought with her too aggresiveily he could have been arrested or something dumb like that you never know. I don't know what to say about the psychologist, maybe if it continues to bother him or if he can't let it go.
