Was this his way of politely brushing me off?

So I hooked up with my neighbour and all was fine after. He’s a sweet dude overall. He offered to make me food, or pick me up some breakfast the morning after. We chatted for a few hours before I went home, we both opened up to each other and there was no awkwardness. Before I left, I had mentioned I was taking my dog for a walk later in the day and he said to let him know if you’d like some company.

A few days later, one of my roommates had a bit of an emergency and after she was done at the hospital my car wouldn’t start.. she had asked me to pick her up as she was feeling emotional and wanted me to pick her up. So I reluctantly reached out to my him to see if he could drive me over to get her. He agreed.

On our way in, I decided to stop in at his and say thanks/ just have a quick chat. And he was behaving differently, I brushed it off and left him be. He texted the next day to say he was having a bad day and to say sorry if he came off rude or distant, he had a lot on his mind lately. Is that his way of politely telling me he wasn’t into anything else than the hookup? I would love some opinions.

I kinda like this guy so overall and I just wanna know if I should leave him alone all together if that was him hinting at me that it was a one time thing.

thanks! xx
