He seems to be only nervous when he sees me or is around me. He was relaxed around his friend but when he saw me walk up to him and say hi, he started shaking and his voice went high pitched.

Sometimes it’s because she seems intimidating, sometimes it’s because he senses she’s attracted to him, sometimes (oddly) it’s because there is some sense of attraction but it’s confusing him.

Have you heard of high functioning anxiety? Not even saying that in a condescending way, I just used to struggle with it and my hands would shake like crazy. I would stutter and talk fast, mainly when I spoke with certain people. Not my friends, they understood and have been around me for years. Not saying he can’t have a crush, just giving you some perspective. I always wonder what “nervous” translates as for some people.

I got help with it but for a long time I didn’t know what it was and why my response was like that with certain people I’d speak with. When my hands would shake, I had to do something with them. I’d play with my nails or stroke my hair. It was bad.

Yeah, it’s rough. Different things can be triggers or cause that bad anxiety. If you say he isn’t attracted to you, it could be his concern over confrontation or you being angry with him. I know it should be simple to reject someone, but with this kind of anxiety (assuming he might have it) it’s like over-worrying about what you’ve done. To me it shows he’s empathetic with you and feels bad for not returning your sentiments. You seem like a kind woman, so I’m sure you outwardly show him it’s fine. Still, it’s hard not to struggle.
